O’Shaquie Foster wants more than what he’s been given. That goes for world titles, opportunities and certainly respect.
It’s all conjecture, but the 31-year-old WBC super featherweight champ believes he’s the best in the division. Some, however, are convinced that
Ray Ford deserves that spot.
Whenever someone mentions Ford as the best fighter at 130, Foster rolls his eyes.
Foster (23-3, 12 KOs) prefers to compare the competition Ford has faced since moving up in late 2024 to his own.
“Since 2020, everybody I've fought been in the top five,” Foster said on Cigar Talk’s YouTube channel. “Then you got guys like Ray Ford and you give him a pass. Y’all can’t sit up here and say he’s number one in the division and he fights two dudes that's not even ranked in nobody’s top 10, nobody’s top 15.”
Ford, 26, hasn’t taken on a murderous row of competition since making his 130-pound debut.
Against Orlando Gonzalez and Thomas Mattice, Ford shared 20 combined rounds with them, losing just one officially on a judges' scorecard. Neither of those fighters are ranked.
That trend continued last weekend in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, as
Ford scored a fairly close points win over Abraham Nova. Ironically enough, Nova pushed Foster in February 2024 before losing a split decision. At this stage in his career, the former title challenger also isn’t ranked by any of the four sanctioning bodies.
Still, Ford (18-1-1, 8 KOs) continues to call out Foster. A bout with Ford is bound to happen which can put all of the talk to rest. Foster just wishes that the New Jersey native stepped up his level of opposition to earn the praise he gets.
“I wouldn’t get away with that," Foster said.
