Oscar Collazo wants to be the first Puerto Rican male undisputed champion
Oscar Collazo didn't enjoy the year he wanted but was still able to maintain his unbeaten status and The Ring, WBA and WBO strawweight titles.

He's grateful for what he did achieve and intends to enjoy a successful 2026.

"At least we fought, a lot of boxers and champions haven't fought a lot," Collazo (13-0, 10 KOs) told The Ring. "The past two or three years, I've been fighting three, four fighters a year, so having two fights this year is good. I would love to have a third one but at least the beginning of the year we're going to fight."

Apparently, Collazo will defend his title in a homecoming in Puerto Rico in February and he wants it to be a unification with either IBF titlist Pedro Taduran or a rematch with WBC ruler Melvin Jerusalem.

"Yeah, that's the fights I want at the beginning of the year with a huge bang," he said. "I'm looking forward to being the first male Puerto Rican undisputed. Those are the fights I have to get. Either one is fine with me."

While he wishes he could have shared a ring those other champions, he appreciates it’s not as easy as some may think.

"Everybody was kind of busy," he explained. "One of those fights could have happened but it wasn't the right time. We couldn't get an agreement, so we had to defend our belts."

The 28-year-old's last five fights, over the last two-and-a-half-years, have taken place away from the Island, in the USA, Mexico and Saudi Arabia.

So, the opportunity to fight in front of his friends, family and supports is a big moment for him.

"A lot of people have been waiting for it," he said. "Right now is the right time for a homecoming in Puerto Rico. A lot of people noticing me in the world of boxing."

In the space of four days at the end of last month both Jerusalem and Taduran successfully defended their titles and Collazo watched with anticipation of gathering intel for what he hopes will be unifications in 2026.

"Taduran did what he had to do as a champion to defend his belt," he said. "He had a clash of heads in the middle of the fight, but he did a very good job.

"The Jerusalem fight had me a bit worried because it was a very close fight. I don't know if it was because it was in the Philippines, Manny Pacquiao was there, it was a big stage for him. The pressure had him throwing wild cause he doesn't fight like that. He got the win and I'm very happy for the both of them and now we can make those fights happen."

Collazo is supremely driven to become the first undisputed male champion from Puerto Rico.

"It's very important for me, that's what I've been aiming for since day one," he said. "I know I'm the best 105-pound fighter; I can make history for my island.

"These are the fights I want; I'm training hard and the best fight the best, and we want to put the 105-pound division on notice, and these are the fights I've got to get to do that."

However, his goals don't end there.

"I would love to go to 108-pounds and fight," he said. "It's a matter of time. I can go directly to fight the WBO champion [Rene] Santiago because I got the five title defenses, I am a super champion, I can do that. He's unifying the belts with [WBA champion Kyosuke] Takami.

"I'm going to look closely into that fight because being two-weight unified champion is something I am looking for that to happen in the near future. 2026 is going to be a huge year for us, I can't wait for it."
