Omari Jones Keen To Continue Growing His Hometown Presence In Orlando
ORLANDO, Florida — Omari Jones hasn't been shy about his intention to become a key figure in his community.

On Thursday, that brought him to the pool table as he put down the boxing gloves for a pool stick at the Matchroom Pool's Florida Open Pool Championship.

Jones (3-0, 3 KOs), a 2024 Olympic bronze medalist in Paris and the lone American to earn a medal in boxing, was in attendance at Caribe Royale. It was the same venue where he made his professional debut March 15, when scoring a second-round stoppage win over 19-fight Italian veteran Alessio Mastronunzio.

In his time at the pool table, Jones played nine-ball with Jayson Stark, who is No. 10 in Matchroom Pool’s rankings and Great Britain's highest-ranked player. Before departing to fulfill other media obligations, an elated Jones took photos with fans and children while showing off his bronze medal from the Paris Games.

"I got a call from Matchroom, and they just basically said, there's a pool tournament in the area, is it something you're interested in going to?" Jones told The Ring. "I didn't know they were going to have me play. I think it was pretty fun, especially interacting with Jayson and something I’ll come back to."

Jones' appearance is part of him being a consistent presence in the Orlando community and his foundation, "Dollar And A Dream." The 22-year-old held his first annual camp, "Dream In Motion," on July 24-25 for kids 8-17 at the School of Hard Knocks. The camp had 110 attend across the two days.

Antonio Tarver, former light heavyweight champion and Orlando native, was among those at Jones' camp.

"It's something that me and my team started," Jones said. "They know my vision, that I'm always about giving back to the kids and just putting so much energy back into my community and the new generation.

"They look at me like a superhero, somebody that they can be tangible to, in touch with, in the community. I'm always there. They look at me as that source of, 'If he's from Orlando and he did it, I can do it too.' I'm happy that they're able to look at me like that."

Jones is being kept busy in the ring, having last fought on July 19 as part of the Bam Rodriguez-Phumelela Cafu undercard, dropping Alfredo Rodolfo Blanco twice and stopping him in the third round in Frisco, Texas.
