Omar Trinidad Dominates Mike Plania Over Ten Rounds, Remains Unbeaten
Omar Trinidad delivered another dominant performance on a night when his local fan base needed a boost.

The Ring's No. 10 featherweight contender effortlessly outpointed the Philippines' 'Magic' Mike Plania over ten rounds. Scores were 100-90, 100-90 and 99-91 for Plania in their UFC Fight Pass main event Friday evening in front of a sold-out crowd at Commerce Casino in Commerce, California.

Los Angeles' Trinidad—who hails from the Boyle Heights section—has rapidly emerged as the venue's top draw and a reliable headliner for 360 Promotions. Friday's event was about more than that, however, given the catastrophic events surrounding the ongoing—though slowly contained—fires in the greater Los Angeles area.

"I felt good," Trinidad said after the fight. "Ten solid rounds, I kept throwing punches. I want to give a special shoutout to those affected by the unfortunate event from a couple of weeks ago with the L.A. fires."
Trinidad established his dominance from the opening bell, though the threat of a knockout never truly surfaced. It was due in part to the largely defensive performance turned in by Plania, who struggled to get off his punches as he was constantly protect against the incoming.

Action picked up considerably late in the third round. Trinidad landed a series of right hands, which left Plania trapped against the ropes. Plania survived the barrage, which prompted Trinidad to return to his jab which served him well throughout the night.

Plania tried to take advantage when action was at close quarters. He drew Trinidad in and then landed with a right to the body. A left hook upstairs badly missed the mark, at which point Trinidad immediately resumed control.

Trinidad stalked Plania in the sixth after the visiting Filipino missed wildly with an overhand right. Plania was able to cover up and avoid having to pay for the mistake, but was unable to produce a response for anything Trinidad had to offer.

Action remained one way as the fight ventured into the later rounds. Trinidad seemed resigned to the fact that he was headed to the scorecards for a second straight time. It didn't deter him from letting his hands go, as he constantly threw in combination and also targeted the body.

Plania stood his ground at the center of the ring in the ninth. Trinidad used lateral movement to set up his jab and right hands. Plania ran his mouth more than he let his punches fly, to which Trinidad verbally responded. Referee Thomas Taylor called time and warned both to "cut out the f---ing chitter chatter and box."

Trinidad (18-0-1, 13 KOs) was extended the full ten-round distance after he went all twelve rounds in his previous outing last Oct. 26 at this very venue.

The greatest positive takeaway was that he had plenty in the gas tank by fight's end, if not attributable to the lack of offensive output by Plania (31-5, 18 KOs).
