Olivia Curry Ready For Another War Against Kaye Scott
Just 92 days after their first fight ended in a majority draw, Olivia Curry and Kaye Scott will return to the scene of their hotly-contested bout to do battle again for the vacant WBA and WBC middleweight titles.

This time, their 10-round unification bout will be the main event of a Salita Promotions card on DAZN on December 20 at the Fox Theatre in Detroit, Michigan. With the circumstances largely remaining the same, Curry expects the rematch to be a continuation of their first clash.

“I think they can expect another war,” Curry told The Ring. “I don't think either of us is going to sit back. Even if it's a little more technical, I don't see a world in which this isn't just as much of a banger as the first one. I think it's gonna become that, and I'm gonna make it that, because that's my style.”

Both fighters stood in the pocket and traded punches for much of their first fight on September 19. Scott, 41, got off to a fast start and largely controlled the first half of the first fight with her ability to land the sharper blows compared to Curry (7-2-2, 2 KOs). In the second half, Curry’s volume and work on the inside turned the tide in her favor as the action and pace reached a fever pitch.

Once the final bell rang, there wasn’t much to separate the two fighters, and the final scorecards read as such. With the back-and-forth nature of their 10-round affair, Curry, 36, wasn’t surprised the fight was scored a draw. Judges Nathan Palmer and Vincent Santino scored the fight 95-95, while Rosemary Gross had it 98-92 for Scott (4-1-1).

“I knew it was close,” Curry said. “I don't like when boxers talk like, ‘Oh yeah, for sure, I won.’ I know that there's a little bit of a narrative of you're supposed to always sort of paint yourself in the right light. But no, I'll be honest, I walked back to the corner, and I was like, ‘I don't know, guys. I didn't feel like I lost, but I didn't really feel like I won.’

Usually, if you really are dominating someone, you can feel that, and I didn't feel that way. I was like, 'I don't know what this is going to be,' and when I watched the tape back, I thought the draw was very fair.”

Still, it didn’t make the final verdict sting any less, especially given that it was her second straight draw. Curry fought to a split draw against Melody Popravak in her fight before facing Scott.

“It feels awful,” Curry said. It feels like a loss, to be honest. I don't see it any differently. It's like you come out and you didn't win, so that means that you didn't do something that you should have done. I definitely don't want to feel that way again. But I know that Kaye Scott is obviously a fierce competitor. We were very evenly matched in the first fight, so I'm gonna have to work really, really hard in the second fight to come out victorious.”

Now, armed with 20 minutes of experience against Scott, Curry believes small adjustments from the first fight will prove to be the difference and help her become the unified middleweight champion in the rematch.

“The pace was very high, and I'm no stranger to that, but I was a little surprised that she pushed the pace as much as she did,” Curry said. “Usually, that's something that I feel very confident in my ability to set that tone, and she matched my energy.

"When I watch it back, it's the little things. It's like, okay, I'm doing really good work to the body, but most of that good work is happening after round six. I needed to close my distance and be there sooner, or I land a big shot that pushes her head back, but then I didn't follow up with the hook. It's little things like that.

"We're cleaning those things up, and it'll be a different outcome this time.”
