Nonito Donaire, fighting for the first time in almost two years, returned to win there WBA's interim bantamweight belt late Saturday night in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
Donaire, 42, beat
Andres Campos by technical decision after the bout was stopped in the ninth round after a clash of heads left the Filipino Flash unable to see out of his right eye.
He led on all three scorecards at the stoppage, 87-84, 87-84 and 88-83.
Donaire (43-8, 28 KOs) is now in line to face the
winner of Antonio Vargas vs. Daigo Higa, which takes place July 30 in Japan.
Donaire had lost two in a row entering the bout. He lost by second-round stoppage during his rematch with undisputed junior featherweight champion Naoya Inoue in 2022. In his last outing a year later, Donaire lost by unanimous decision to Alexandro Santiago for the vacant WBO bantamweight title on the undercard of Terence Crawford's ninth-round stoppage win over Errol Spence.
