NIGEL BENN has predicted a four-round demolition job for his son Conor in the April 26 grudge match with Chris Eubank Jr.
And the Dark Destroyer, who won world titles at middleweight and super-middleweight during a glittering 20-year career, also believes his son is already much better than he ever was.
Benn Jr, ‘The Destroyer’, is set to finally face Eubank Jr at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, nearly three years on from their initial date and 32 years after their two famous dads last fought each other.
Benn and Eubank shared one of the fiercest rivalries in the history of British boxing and fought twice during the 90s, with Eubank winning the first encounter via ninth round stoppage in Birmingham in 1990 before they drew in front of a TV audience of 15 million people three years later.
Now their sons are set to clash in a long-awaited fight, which has been punctuated by numerous ‘drug cheat’ allegations and a famous egging from Eubank Jr.
Now Benn Sr has predicted that his son will emphatically chalk up a victory for the family - and will need no more than 12 minutes to do it.
“I don’t see it going past four rounds,” said Benn. “They are saying Conor is jumping up two weights but he walks around at 12st. I know my son.
“If Liam Smith gave Eubank the problems like he did in the first fight… that’s Liam Smith. He don’t punch like Conor and I know Conor can do 12 rounds.
“Me personally, I’m more confident in this fight than I was with me against Chris Senior. I just think that Conor is going to go out there and give it to him. Just put it on him. I know he will do that, I’m 100 per cent confident in him doing that.”
The 42-5-1 (35) legend, now 61, was known for his ferocious punching and all-action fighting style but he is adamant that 28-year-old Conor has developed into a better boxer than him already.
He added: “I am so relaxed and so chill because I know what my son can do. He’s actually a much better fighter than me. I could never box like Conor. I just wanted to go in there and have a bang-up, have a war. But Conor has got it all in his locker.
“I don’t see it going past four rounds and I don’t mean it will last four rounds because it will be over whenever Conor catches him. That could be round one, round two. I don’t see it going past four and that’s what I believe.
“He fights bigger guys than him in sparring. I know my boy and I’m so confident.”
At las month's launch press conference, after his son had been hit with an egg, Benn was seen pursuing Eubank and managed to get his hand around his neck.
But, he addressed Eubank directly and apologised for his actions. “I thought you glassed him, mate,” he said. “I nearly got my hand round your throat. I apologise for doing that, mate. I really am sorry that I did that.”
