Nigel Benn Confident His Son Holds Advantages Over Eubank in "Every Arena"
Former two-weight world champion, Nigel Benn, has full confidence that his son, Conor, will have “everything” in his favor when he finally fights Chris Eubank Jnr in their middleweight grudge match.

Eubank, 34-3 (25 KOs), and Benn, 23-0 (14 KOs), will headline Ring Magazine’s ‘Fatal Fury’ event which takes place at London’s Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on April 26th. The show will be broadcast globally by DAZN.

Conor turned over with next to no amateur experience and when asked if he ever truly imagined his son would reach this level or be involved in fights of such magnitude, Benn cast his mind back to the 28 year-old’s second professional fight - a four round decision over Luke Keleher in Glasgow - and remembers that he and the team made the long trip home to Essex with some much more modest targets in mind.

“No, no, no. When we fought in Scotland, we actually thought to ourselves, ‘Oh, he might be Southern Area champion,’” Benn told The Ring with a laugh.

“But he's just excelled now, so I'm just happy. He's just going to go all the way.”

Benn famously boxed Eubank twice. In 1990, Eubank stopped Benn and took his WBO middleweight title in the ninth round of a ferocious war. In 1993, they locked horns again in a WBC/WBO super middleweight unification fight. Both men kept their belts after a tense split draw that most believe Benn was unfortunate not to win.

On Tuesday evening, the latest episode in the ongoing family feud got off to a typically unpredictable start when the launch press conference descended into chaos.

Benn immediately leapt into the fray and grabbed Eubank Jnr by the throat after watching him crack an egg on his son’s face during their head to head.

The incident ramped up tensions between the families to even greater heights but earlier in the afternoon, Benn insisted that although he has spent a good portion of his boxing life trying to keep his cool around the Eubank family, he doesn’t feel like he needs to give his son any specific advice on how to control his emotions ahead of the fight.

“No, no, I want to stay away from him,” he said.

“I let him do what he has to do. He's been doing good all the way so I won't get involved. He'll do what he's been doing for the last three or four years. That's making him successful, I’m not changing him.

“I'm a dad but I'm a dad on the outside.”

Benn said time and time again on Tuesday that he is more excited and confident about his son beating Eubank Jnr than he was ahead of his own fights with Chris Snr.

He believes that Eubank Jnr is a faded force who was flattered by his revenge victory over Liam Smith in September 2023 and insists that although Conor will be stepping up from super welterweight, he holds advantages in every department.

“Everything, everything, everything. Every arena. Fitness level, determination, will to win, the power, the know-how. Everything's in his corner. Everything,” he said.

“You watch his [Eubank’s] last couple of fights. It's even like when he beat Liam Smith. It weren’t impressive because Liam Smith was struggling. He was all over the place but had to take the fight.

“That's not Conor.”
