Jonas Tells Price: Be Careful What You Wish For, All The Pressure Is On You
Natasha Jonas has heard it all before. At 40 years old, with the odds slightly stacked against her, a year after telling her trainer Joe Gallagher that 2024 would be her last as a professional boxer - here she is again in another headliner.

This time, Lauren Price (8-0, 2 KOs) stands in her way. Tokyo 2020 Olympic Gold-medallist Price is now The Ring and WBA Welterweight champion, while Jonas (16-2-1, 9 KOs) holds the IBF and WBC straps at 147 pounds.

The pair will clash on March 7th at Royal Albert Hall in London, England on an all-female show promoted by Boxxer and Ben Shalom with the action live on Sky Sports.

Jonas previously told The Ring that while she's not overlooking Price, she wants to finish her career with a big fight against Katie Taylor (24-1, 6 KOs) or Mikaela Mayer (20-2, 5 KOs), The Ring's No. 10 pound-for-pound fighter.

Well, a shot at the latter could be a realistic option.

The Ring recently revealed that Mayer is set to face Sandy Ryan in a WBO Welterweight title rematch on March 29 in Las Vegas. The winner of that bout and the winner of Jonas-Price will likely come together to battle it out for undisputed status later on in 2025.

Jonas, The Ring's No. 9 pound-for-pound fighter, will have to do it the hard way against a woman 10 years her junior in Price, who has barely lost a round in her career so far.

She said at a press conference in London on Tuesday: "To be able to headline my own all-female show at the Royal Albert Hall is a big occasion. It's an amazing venue, I've never seen it with the boxing get-up but I'll get a sneak-peak.

"The pressure's not on me, Lauren is the champion who's never lost a round, she's an Olympic Gold medallist, the pressure is on her to come and do what she says she can do. The underdog tag suits me, I've been here before, it's nothing new.

"You've got to be careful what you wish for."

Jonas' trainer Gallagher also warned that it felt like a similar story for Jonas, who has fought to a competitive draw with Terri Harper, a razor-thin loss to Katie Taylor and a gutsy win over Mayer previously.

He said: "[Jonas] promised me a year ago that 2024 was her last year and here we are ready to headline again.

"It feels a bit like deja vu here, similar to the Terri Harper fight - 'poor Natasha, Terri's too much, too young' and the feeling here is that of a changing of the guard. We've been here before but Natasha Jonas at 40 years old is still showing the desire, she still wants a Mayer fight, a Taylor fight.

"Natasha is sitting here today a two-weight unified champion, she's going to come out of March 7th as the victor. It's going to be a proud moment having a fighter fight there."

Price looked steely-eyed while sitting on the top table at the Dorchester Hotel in the capital, firing back at Jonas with all the confidence one could muster.

She added: "Taking age out of it, I know I'm better in all areas, I back myself, my accolades speak for themself, I know I'm still fresh, Tasha is my toughest test but she'll bring the level of my game out and I'll rise again.

"I've always had pressure on me, I was in an Olympic final, with pressure comes diamonds and on March 7th I'll take those belts back to Wales. I believe in myself, the right time is now. And I'll come through with flying colours.

"It gave me goosebumps looking at Royal Albert Hall. It's going to be up there with winning Olympic gold, competing for world titles there. I'm proud to be headlining."

Her own trainer Rob McCracker said: "The first couple of fights [of Price's pro career] were a little nervous for Lauren and now she's become very confident.

"Lauren Price has been a phenomenal athlete, I've already said it - the best should fight the best and we've got that with this fight."
