Mikaela Mayer Accepts Lauren Price Fight Would Be Held In UK: 'She Has Three Belts, I Have One'
Mikaela Mayer fully expects that if she's to fight Lauren Price in an undisputed welterweight title clash later this year, she'll likely have to travel to the UK for the fifth time in her career.

Mayer (20-2, 5 KOs), the WBO champion at 147 pounds, is no stranger to fighting on British soil, as four of her last five contests have been held in the UK.

Two of those occasions saw her drop close split decision losses to Alycia Baumgardner in October 2022 and Natasha Jonas in January 2024, however, and fear remains on Mayer's side that she won't get the rub of the green with the judges next time, either.

Before a unification fight with WBC/WBA/IBF/Ring titleholder Price (9-0, 2 KOs) can occur, though, Mayer has a rematch with Sandy Ryan to worry about.

The pair will clash this weekend at the Fontainebleau in Las Vegas on an ESPN card which will be shown live on Sky Sports in the UK. Their first fight last September ended in a majority decision victory for Mayer.

But the Price fight remains firmly on Mayer's mind.

She told The Ring's Rikki Soumpholphakdy: ""I fully expect to be unifying with [Price] by the end of the year, I've got to get through this fight with Sandy, I believe I'll come out on top and I'm not one to run from challenges. That fight won't be hard to make.

"I'm not naive to the fact that I'll be coming in with one belt and Lauren Price has three. The chances of getting it here in Vegas are slim. If I have to go to the UK I will. If the money's right, money talks, we can make it happen.

"It makes me a little nervous because I've been there before [and not got the decisions], but I've got to go in there and make it clear, do my absolute best and sometimes you don't get it in your backyard, that's okay, I'm no stranger to that.

"[But] I really do like fighting in the UK, I spent two years fighting there, I'm glad to be back but I built a nice fanbase out there, they always treat me well, they love the sport and women's boxing.

"I'm not opposed to going out there, you'd think because I spent so much time there I wouldn't be an underdog going to that side, but we've seen that before. I'm excited to go back."

Price recently beat Jonas at the Royal Albert Hall in London to claim the Liverpudlian's WBC and IBF belts, defending her WBA and Ring titles in the process.

The Ring's pound-for-pound No. 7 fighter Price fought brilliantly and established herself as one of the best female fighters in the world in her win over Jonas.

Mayer says she expected Price to fight how she did, expressing bewilderment at a lack of game plan from previous opponent Jonas.

She added: "Price did well in that fight, she boxed how I thought she would, she has better movement and speed than Jonas, she used that to her advantage.

"Whatever was going on with Jonas she just wasn't letting her hands go, bad game plan or wasn't there mentally or physically but Lauren did her thing."
