Miguel Madueno Saves The Date For Oscar Duarte, Anticipates Win Will Come Up Roses For Career
The show must go on for Golden Boy Promotions on Saturday at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California, as junior welterweight contender Oscar Duarte takes on late-replacement opponent Miguel Madueno in a main event matchup on DAZN.

Duarte was originally supposed to take on two-time 140-pound titleholder Regis Prograis but it was announced on February 6 that Rougarou was forced to pull out of the bout due to a shoulder injury.

So Madueno (31-1-0, 28 KOs) stepped in to take on Duarte (28-2-1, 22 KOs) on 10 days’ notice for a matchup between two forward-charging, hard-hitting Mexican contenders.

"This is the kind of opportunity I train for,” said Madueno. “Some fighters hesitate when they get a call like this, but I don’t. I stay in shape, I stay ready, and I believe in myself. Short notice or not, I’m stepping in with full confidence that I can get the job done.

"Duarte is a tough, aggressive fighter who comes forward with power, but I’m prepared for that style. I also like to come forward, making this a fight the fans will want to see. I respect what he brings to the table, but I know my own strengths and what I’m capable of. This is going to be a battle of two Mexican warriors, and I’m ready to give the fans an exciting fight."

Madueno comes into the clash against Duarte having lost two out his last three bouts. Last time out in July, Madueno suffered a 10-round unanimous decision to Keyshawn Davis. Before that, in February 2024, Madueno scored a split decision win against Justin Pauldo. In November 2023, Madueno dropped a split decision loss against Steve Claggett.

Duarte, meanwhile, has scored back-to-back wins since suffering a knockout loss to Ryan Garcia in December 2023, stopping Joseph Diaz Jr. in April and landing a unanimous decision against Botirzhon Akhmedov in November.

"A victory over Oscar Duarte will be huge for my career,” said Madueno. “It gets me back in the conversation in the super lightweight division and gives me a shot at even bigger fights. This is my chance to prove myself, and I’m ready to make a statement on fight night."
