Miguel Berchelt continues building momentum to land more meaningful matchups in 2026.

The former long-reigning WBC junior lightweight titleholder scored a stoppage win against Edixon Perez on Saturday at the Gimnasio UAT in Reynosa, Mexico.

Berchelt (42-3, 37 KOs) delivered a beating on Perez (30-14, 24 KOs) through seven rounds and the fight was stopped before round eight of their junior welterweight contest, scheduled for 10, could begin.

The win marks four straight for the 33-year-old from Merida, Yucatán, Mexico, and his first since November 2024 where he outpointed Argentina's Mauro Alex Hasan Perouene over 10 rounds.

"El Alacran" Berchelt suffered back-to-back defeats in 2021 and 2022, one by a vicious 10th-round knockout against Oscar Valdez and the other during a one-sided stoppage after six completed rounds with Jeremia Nakathila 13 months later.

Berchelt first won a 130-pound crown in 2017, beating Francisco Vargas via 11th-round knockout and defended the title six times before losing to Valdez in devastating fashion.

"Hopefully after this fight it doesn't take so long to fight again," Berchelt told The Ring before Saturday night's win. "I feel that I can fight against the best lightweights, but need to have the right offer to do that."
