Rising Canadian-based super middleweight Moreno Fendero had been looking forward to returning home to Besançon, in the east of France, for a summer vacation.
However, when he got the opportunity to fight for the fourth time this year, this Friday against late substitute Idaas Redjdal on the
Christian Mbilli-Maciej Sulecki undercard, he was only too happy to put those plans on hold for the moment.
"That was the plan at the beginning but after my last fight, I didn't have the opposition that we expected and I asked [promoter] Camille [Estephan] and [trainer] Marc [Ramsay] and they said, 'Yes,'" Fendero told The Ring through Noe Cloutier.
"It will finally be time to go back home after this fight, after nine months working non-stop, here."
Fendero (11-0, 9 KOs) has stopped his three 2025 opponents, all inside three rounds, as he readies for bigger things in the not-too-distant future.
"I am very happy with my year, very happy with the activity too," he said. "It might be a transition year for me because I am really looking to get my first belt in 2026."
Redjdal steps in at late notice to replace wily Argentine veteran Billi Godoy, who fell ill and won't be in the opposite corner.
"I am always stepping in the ring to follow the game plan, and the knockout seems to arrive by themselves if I do that," he said.
"I'm happy to do rounds but a knockout might happen if I follow the game plan as usual."
Ramsay, who also trains amongst others former Ring, undisputed light heavyweight champion Arthur Beterbiev and top super middleweight contender Mbilli, believes Fendero (11-0, 9 KOs) is improving all the time, doubtlessly aided by being around those top fighters.
"Training a boxer like Moreno is the dream of every coach, serious, disciplined, and hard-working," said Ramsay. "He has shown a beautiful evolution since his first fight and this is just the beginning, and the fact of training every day with Christian Mbilli motivates him to the highest level."
Redjdal (12-4-2) turned professional in 2013. He won his first eight fights before tasting defeat for the first time against Gregory Louyest (PTS 8).
Now 35, he has loses to Moughit El Moutaouakil (SD 10) when they contested the French middleweight title and also rising prospect Jacob Bank (KO 3). However, he enters this fight on a two-fight winning streak.
Mbilli vs. Sulecki, plus undercard bouts, will broadcast on ESPN+ on Friday (6 p.m. ET) .
