Liam Cameron has confirmed the first nutrition plan of his career would open the door for a super-middleweight showdown with
Callum Simpson for the British, Commonwealth and European titles.
And the Sheffield man revealed that he has already received a pair of offers for the all-Yorkshire derby with Barnsley’s undefeated champion Simpson.
Cameron (23-7-1, 10 KOs) has been campaigning as a light-heavyweight for the last 18 months, which included his back-to-back fights with rival
Ben Whittaker.
The second of those grudge matches, which took place at the BP Pulse Arena, Birmingham, in April,
ended in a second-round TKO but Cameron is on the comeback trail. He is now scheduled to return to the ring in an eight-rounder against Mickey Ellison on November 1 in Manchester and knows that he must win if he wants to secure more lucrative opportunities.
Since the defeat to Whittaker, which came six months after their controversial technical draw in Riyadh, Cameron has employed a nutritionist and strength and conditioning coach for the first time in his career.
It means that making the 175-pound light-heavyweight limit will be a straightforward task this time around and could eventually enable him to get down to super-middleweight for the first time since November 2016, when he lost in his challenge for the vacant Commonwealth title against Zac Dunn in Australia.
Now, nearly nine years on, he could get another crack at that very same belt should he agree terms with Simpson. The two teams have had tentative talks about a fight already but are yet to agree terms. Cameron, however, would be willing to trim down even further for the right offer.
He told The Ring: “They’ve sent my manager a couple of offers already for a fight for the British, Commonwealth and European.
“Obviously to fight for those titles I would have to make super-middleweight. It wouldn’t be a walk in the park to make that weight but I would do it. It would be absolutely massive for Yorkshire.
“But I’ve got to get a win first in my next fight and then we will go from there. I’m feeling good and my weight is already low.
“Right now I’m sitting at 81.8 kilos and I fight at 79.5. The fight is not until November so you can see how well the nutrition plan is working. I’d normally be 90 kilos at this point.
“I wanted to start this early because I want a full body transformation. Things don’t happen overnight. I’m not the smallest light-heavyweight but this means I can make super-middle for the right opportunity.
“But my next fight is at light-heavyweight and I am only focused on that right now. Mickey Ellison will come and have a go so I need to make sure I win that before I think about anything else.”
