Kyosuke Takami Dominant In 10th-Round TKO Win Over Erick Rosa, Claims WBA 108lb World Title
In a battle of unbeaten junior flyweights, Kyosuke Takami bossed his way from start to finish and produced a 10th-round stoppage win against WBA titleholder Erick Rosa, becoming Japan's latest world champion.

Rosa, making the first appearance outside his native Dominican Republic, was quickly under the kosh in-front of a partisan crowd loving every minute from Japan's Yokohama Buntai.

In the first of a world championship tripleheader streamed live on DAZN, Takami's confidence naturally grew behind a left hand and whipping right cross which couldn't miss whenever the pair exchanged furiously during the first quarter of their 12-round contest.

Rosa's toughness couldn't be questioned, all too eager to engage in close quarters, though his shots weren't having the desired effect and a right hook wobbled him in round seven as the 23-year-old across from him upped the pace after easing in the sixth.

Referee Mark Nelson warned the champion for straying low with his punches a second time, almost spurring Takami (10-0, 8 KOs) further forward as he chained together relentless attacks and wore the titleholder down.

Into round nine they went, further than the Tokyo youngster had ever been before, though Rosa (9-1, 2 KOs) would've known he needed a knockout and left his body susceptible to more stinging counters connecting flush as he marched forward.

They exchanged combinations at centre ring, Rosa gamely trading and over-reaching too, though was quickly on foot after absorbing a right to the body in the final seconds of another stanza.

A vicious right hand drew a gasp from the crowd as Takami was teeing off with wind in his sails, Rosa looking to hang on but equally indulging him at close-range.

A counter right hand spun the 25-year-old into the corner for the first knockdown, dazed and in danger as Takami could see the finish. After engaging in a clinch that left him in a heap on the canvas, Nelson had seen enough and swiftly waved it off - Rosa rising almost immediately afterwards - though it was the right decision and felt inevitable for a while.

Afterwards, Takami admitted he wasn't sure about what the future holds but expressed gratitude to promoter Akihiko Honda after giving him this chance in only his tenth professional fight. Much has been said about a possible flyweight move given his frame, though exactly three years since his professional debut, it's not a bad dilemma to have.

Elsewhere on the undercard preceding this, junior featherweight Joe Umezawa (2-2) scored a four-round split decision win over debutant Tensho Isobe while Tokyo middleweight Yuki Taniguchi scored a second-round stoppage victory against Yukihiro Mebius Kitamura.
