It seemed as if their competitive contest was up for grabs entering the 10th, though neither fighter performed accordingly during the final three minutes.
Khalil Coe couldn’t put away an exhausted, 36-year-old opponent Saturday night.
The mercurial light heavyweight did, however, do enough to defeat Jesse Hart by majority decision in a sloppy 10-round bout DAZN streamed from Fontainebleau Las Vegas. Judges Eric Cheek (96-92) and David Sutherland (95-93) scored it for Coe, while Patricia Morse Jarman had it a draw (94-94).
Referee Thomas Taylor deducted a point apiece from Coe in the third round and Hart in the sixth.
Coe, 29, a native of Jersey City, New Jersey, overcame a blatant foul for body-slamming Hart.
Coe (11-1-1, 8 KOs) officially weighed 182.8 pounds Friday, almost eight above the contracted weight for their 175-pound bout on the Raymond Muratalla-Andy Cruz undercard. The unprofessionalism infuriated Philadelphia's Hart (31-4, 25 KOs), but the two-time super middleweight title challenger went through with it after Coe agreed to pay a penalty.

A briefly re-energized Hart landed a right hand a little less than 20 seconds into the ninth round. Hart seemed to do enough to win, particularly because Coe wasn’t active in those three minutes.
A straight left by Coe backed up Hart, who appeared to have weary legs, into the ropes with about 1:20 to go in the eighth.
A sweeping left hook by Coe caught Hart early in the seventh round and another one forced him to clinch.
Coe buzzed Hart with a right hand in the sixth, though he didn’t appear to recognize it. Hart held Coe again, which prompted Taylor to deduct a point from him with 39 seconds left after a third warning in as many rounds.
Taylor admonished Hart for excessive holding with just under a minute remaining in the fifth as well. Coe fought from a southpaw stance in the fifth, which proved effective.
