Keyshawn Davis Willing To Move Up To Fight ‘Crazy, Insane’ Teofimo Lopez if Fight is Presented
The beef between Keyshawn Davis and Teofimo Lopez Jr. escalated to an ugly level during Davis’ recent fight against Denys Berinchyk.

Before Davis (13-0, 9 KOs) blasted Berinchyk in four rounds to win the WBO lightweight title, during the fight week, Davis said a box was delivered to his room filled with bananas and a watermelon. A disturbed and angry Davis originally directed his ire toward Berinchyk believing he orchestrated the racist act only to see Lopez mock the heinous incident on social media.

In an interview with The Ring, and several days after beating Berinchyk, the newly crowned 135-pound belt holder Davis said he believes Lopez was behind the incident all along.

“I really do feel that it was Teofimo that did that,” Davis told The Ring. “I genuinely feel that way. I apologized to Berinchyk and his team on social media and after the fight in the ring. I wished him well, and I apologized for feeling like it was them. I definitely cleared the air with them. They are good people, and I don't think they would take it that far. I do think it was Teo. We know Teo does racial stuff like that on Twitter. We didn't think he would take it this far, but he did. We are just seeing the real him.”

As The Ring and WBO junior welterweight champion Lopez (21-1, 13 KOs) plans for a summer return, Davis is open to settling their years-long feud in a sanctioned fight.

“I'm the type of person that doesn't chase after anything. I follow God's will,” said Davis. “I am not about to move up a weight class because I am chasing a world champion. If the fight presents itself, I will move up. But I am not chasing Teo. Teo is insane. He's crazy. He's not in his right mind, seriously. I'm not chasing after anyone. I'm a champion. I'm not a contender or a prospect anymore. I'm doing what I want to do. I want a big fight at 135, and God willing, I'm going to get that.”

Davis, The Ring’s No. 5 ranked fighter at 135 pounds, has gotten just six rounds of work over his last two fights.

The 25-year-old Virginia native and 2020 Olympic silver medalist plans on having a busy year defending his belt and remains hopeful that title unification fights against the likes of Gervonta Davis (WBA), Vasiliy Lomachenko (IBF), and Shakur Stevenson (WBC) will materialize.

“I want to return real soon, before the summertime,” said Davis. “I want to fight three more times this year. Y'all are going to see me a lot more this year.”
