If there’s one thing about Isaac Cruz, he always comes to fight.
This past Saturday night, Keyshawn Davis cleared his plans, plopped in front of his television, and watched a violent night of boxing. David Benavidez and David Morrell may have been the headliners but Cruz and Angel Fierro stole the show.
There were no feel-out rounds between the two, there was also nothing tactical about the way they went about their business either. From the moment the opening bell rang, it was bombs away. Both men brawled in the center of the ring, doing their best to break the other's will.
Davis, like most of the Las Vegas crowd, stood on his feet and applauded. Once the final verdict was rendered in the direction of Cruz, he began fantasizing about a matchup between himself and the relentless Mexican. Of course, Davis (12-0, 8 KOs) has a world title to win on February 14th against Denys Berinchyk. But as long as he doesn’t get derailed, he knows exactly who he wants his first title defense to be against.
“After I get my belt, I would love to fight Isaac Cruz,” wrote Davis on his verified X account.
Relying on mostly blood and guts to get him by has always been Cruz’s main weapon for success. At times though, it hasn’t worked out for him.
In the case of Gervonta Davis and most recently, Jose Valenzuela, they ditched going for the knockout and outboxed Cruz (27-3-1, 18 KOs) from the outside. The blueprint is there for Davis if chooses but the former Olympic silver medalist is all about giving the fans their money’s worth. So while he could box and move, it’s more likely that he’ll attempt to beat Cruz at his own violent game.
“He's a dog and I’m a dog. It would be a great fight.”
