Keyshawn Davis isn’t the type to sit back and celebrate old wins. So, once he got rid of Denys Berinchyk this past February and stole his world title, he began thinking about his next move.
One of Davis’ biggest goals is to become a unified champion. That may happen one day but it certainly won’t be next.
As first reported by The Ring, Davis will take on Edwin De Los Santos in June. The fight will represent Davis’ second fight in his hometown of Norfolk, Virginia, and his first title defense.
Apparently, news of De Los Santos being next wasn’t entirely surprising, but Davis (13-0, 9 KOs) seemingly wasn’t in the States when things became official. Now that his opponent has placed ink to paper, it’s time to get prepared.
“Bro signed the contract,” said Davis on a self-recorded video while admitting he’s currently on vacation. “Ok then, I know what time it is when I get back.”
It’s been a little while since De Los Santos has been a lightweight factor. Roughly a year and a half to be exact.
Back in 2023, the crafty and explosive Dominican gave Shakur Stevenson all he could handle. Stevenson, who’s always been defensive, refused to let his hands go while De Los Santos (16-2, 14 KOs) found plenty of success. Although he did come up short, his stock rose. However, due to an ailing blood clot issue, he was unable to get back in the ring at any point in 2024.
De Los Santos, even in his losses, has a way of making his opponents think. He also forces them to be alert. That vagarious style, nevertheless, might work against some, but Davis isn’t worried about the pernicious power, or his timely speed. When he looks over at his opponent and sizes him up, he can’t help but shake his head and smile.
“Bro like 5’3” or something like that,” continued Davis. “He too little.”
