The jury is still out on Frank Martin.
A certain section of the boxing community views him as a very good fighter, others believe he’s one of the best 135-pounders in the world. Keyshawn Davis, however, doesn’t believe that any of those superlatives are quite true.
“B, solid C+,” said Davis to Million Dollaz Worth Of Game when asked to give Martin a rating.
When last seen, Martin saw his undefeated record vanish right before him. The culprit, Gervonta Davis.
Viewed as a gigantic underdog in June of 2024, Martin (18-1, 12 KOs) was phlegmatic. His unassuming approach worked for him, at least early on. During those first few rounds, Martin boxed smoothly from the outside. He caught Davis coming in on several occasions while pivoting out to remain out of harm’s way.
Ultimately though, Martin’s gas tank began failing him in the latter rounds. The end of his night came in the eighth when Davis (30-0, 28 KOs) pinned him against the ropes and let off a three-punch combination, putting him down and out.
Keyshawn Davis (13-0, 9 KOs) has always wanted to get his hands on Davis. Having won his WBO strap just a few short weeks ago against Denys Berinchyk, the former Olympic silver medalist feels unbeatable.
In a perfect world, a Davis vs. Davis showdown would be next. That decision, of course, is in Gervonta Davis’ hands. If a unification doesn’t take place against Davis or Vasiliy Lomachenko, the newly crowned champion doesn’t have a problem facing Martin.
Unsurprisingly, the 25-year-old believes he’s a better fighter than Gervonta Davis. But, in terms of how a matchup with Martin would look, he’s fully convinced that it would be identical to his showdown against Gervonta Davis.
“I’ll knock Frank's ass out,” continued Davis. “I’ll knock his ass out.”
