Nahir Albright Beats Kelvin Davis By Majority Decision In First Outing Since Keyshawn Davis Fight
NORFOLK, Virginia – Nahir Albright tried his best to not leave it to the judges again against another Davis brother Saturday night.

The long-inactive Albright couldn’t knock out Kelvin Davis, but he did enough during their 10-round junior welterweight fight to defeat Davis by majority decision in a co-feature ESPN aired from Scope Arena in Davis’ hometown.

Albright beat Kelvin Davis 19 months after Davis’ younger brother, former WBO lightweight champion Keyshawn Davis, defeated Albright by majority decision in a 10-round lightweight fight.

Judges Dave Braslow (97-93) and Paul Wallace (96-94) respectively scored seven and six rounds for Albright. Judge Brian Costello scored the action even, 95-95.

Albright (17-2, 7 KOs, 1 NC), who hadn’t fought in the 19 months since his loss to Keyshawn Davis, is known more as a boxer than a puncher. He nonetheless went after a much taller southpaw with right hands from long range almost as soon as their fight started.

Albright buzzed the previously undefeated Davis (15-1, 8 KOs) with right hands in the second and fourth rounds in a fight he completely controlled through six rounds. Davis fought more effectively in the final four rounds, when he mostly stayed away from the ropes, but it wasn’t enough to overcome the early lead Albright built on the cards.

Well aware that he needed to impress the judges in his opponent’s hometown, Albright fought the final round as if he were behind on the cards. A jab by Albright backed Davis into the ropes barely 20 seconds into the 10th round.

An adjusted Davis kept the fight near the center of the ring again in the ninth round. He worked off his jab and landed straight lefts in that round.

Davis’ comeback continued in the eighth round, when he was the more active, accurate puncher for a second straight round.

The seventh round was Davis’ best of the fight to that point. He fought aggressively and landed multiple left hands on Albright, who appeared to be well ahead on the cards through six rounds.

Albright backed Davis into the ropes with about 30 seconds remaining in the sixth round and landed two fight hands. Davis fired back and landed a straight left of his own before the sixth round concluded.

Davis tied up Albright after Albright landed a right hand with about 20 seconds on the clock in the fifth round.

For the second time in their bout, a right hand by Albright rocked Davis with about 30 seconds to go in the fourth round. Another right by Albright made Davis hold him just before the fourth round ended.

Davis went at Albright when the third round began to show Albright he wasn’t still hurt from the right hand Albright landed in the final minute of the second round. Davis’ legs seemed steady in the third round, which was competitive.

A right hand by Albright knocked Davis off balance and into the ropes with just under 50 seconds on the clock in the second round. A buzzed Davis managed to make it to the end of the second round.

Albright landed a short, right hand in a clinch toward the end of the first round. Albright also connected with a couple right hands earlier in the opening round.

Before Saturday night, Albright hadn’t competed in an official fight since his close loss to Keyshawn Davis in October 2023.

Judges Robert Hoyle (96-94) and David Sutherland (97-93) scored their 10-round fight for Keyshawn Davis at Fort Bend Epicenter in Rosenberg, Texas. Keyshawn Davis settled for a majority decision that night because judge John Basile scored their fight a draw, 95-95.

The Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation changed Davis’ victory to a no-contest because he tested positive for marijuana, which is on their list of banned substances.

Keyshawn Davis was scheduled to defend his WBO lightweight title against Edwin De Los Santos in ESPN’s 12-round main event Saturday night. Their fight was canceled Friday night because Sampson Lewkowicz, De Los Santos’ promoter, wouldn’t allow him to face Davis because Davis came in 4.3 pounds overweight for their 135-pound championship match.
