Katie Taylor might be the very definition of soft-spoken and mild-mannered. The 38-year-old may enjoy punching women in the face for a living but in terms of arguing and going back and forth? She isn’t a fan of it.
During two leads up to her showdowns against Amanda Serrano, Taylor took a backseat as Serrano spoke loudly and aggressively. That wasn’t an issue. Behind the scenes, however, Serrano was apparently doing the same.
“She wants to walk to the ring second, she wants to be announced second. It’s absolutely ridiculous,” said Taylor to a group of reporters. “I just want to get in there and fight and perform. After I beat her a third time, I don’t want any more complaints.”
Going out there and beating Serrano again would be the proverbial nail in the coffin for Taylor. When the two originally met up back in 2022, the Irish native eked out a close decision.
For years on end, Serrano complained about the decision and essentially forced her way into a rematch. Once again, Taylor came out on top. A third showdown between them was unexpected but Taylor is sick and tired of hearing Team Serrano throw verbal jabs.
As for the perks Serrano and company seemingly angled for, Taylor found it all confusing. The multi-division world champion admitted that she isn’t the type to care about things such as ring walks but she does believe that a certain amount of respect should be given. Whether Serrano and her team like it or not, she’s the A side. The Puerto Rican native is a star in her own right but until she picks up an official win against Taylor, she has no right to dictate anything.
“I’m 2-0 against her,” continued Taylor. “She actually feels like she won those fights which isn’t correct.”
