Atlantic City - Justin Figueroa knew that he was several levels above Mario Gaston Rios. Although there were times when he played with his food, he made sure he got the job done.

BoxingInsider Promotions has tapped into the Atlantic City scene. This show, like there others, was jam-packed. The crowd that filled the Tropicana Hotel & Casino stood on their feet as Figueroa was introduced. That part wasn’t surprising. He’s a native of Atlantic City and proudly represents his roots whenever he gets a chance.

Once the opening bell rang, Figueroa (12-0, 10 KOs) slyly walked over to his opponent and began pumping out his jab. Rios, who was fighting for just the second time since 2016, seemed bemused by what was coming his direction. As he backed into the ropes, Figueroa landed several telling body blows before finishing upstairs. While he managed to make it out of the first, his luck ran out in the second.

It was as if Figueroa was annoyed that Rios (10-4-1, 7 KOs) remained standing. The longtime journeyman did his best to get himself going, throwing a few looping right hands that landed innocuously on the gloves of his man.

It didn’t take Figueroa long to realize that he had nothing to worry about. A quick three-punch combination wobbled Rios but a violent barrage finished him off at the 2:34 mark of the second.
