Former WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker is looking for another crack at gold.
On Saturday night at the ANB Arena in Riyadh, Parker blasted out late replacement Martin Bakole in two rounds.
Bakole, regarded as one of the most dangerous fighters at the weight, had a decent first round, but then in the second he was clipped hard to the back of the head and went crashing to the mat. He barely beat the count and the fight was quickly waved off.
The Congolese boxer accepted the opportunity after IBF world champion Daniel Dubois withdrew with illness.
"Martin Bakole, thank you for accepting the challenge of flying all the way here on short notice and giving me a good fight," Parker said.
"I stayed calm, structured, composed and got the victory. I'm fit, strong, healthy and sharp. Andy Lee broke it down for me, I had to be patient."
Parker holds the WBO's interim-world title, which makes him the mandatory challenger to unified champion Oleksandr Usyk.
Usyk was ringside at the Anb Arena and watched Parker secure the big win.
And the New Zealand boxer is hoping that he's able to secure a world title showdown with Usyk.
"How can I fight for the world title next?" Parker said. "If Usyk wants a dance partner. I want to fight for a world title, I want to be champion of the world again."
