Jose Ramirez Will Hurt Devin Haney, Says Robert Garcia
Slim and none. Those are the chances most are giving Jose Ramirez against Devin Haney on May 2nd in Times Square, New York - as part of a Ring Magazine tripleheader. The event will be broadcast globally by DAZN.

It isn’t an indictment on the former unified champ but more of a glowing compliment of who he’s up against.

Haney, since the beginning, has been on a Hall of Fame trajectory. But while his two-divisional title run has him on track, Ryan Garcia halted all of his momentum.

Back in April of 2024, Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) suffered a severe beating at the hands of Garcia, resulting in a majority decision defeat. Ultimately, that loss was scrubbed thanks to a failed post-fight drug test.

Still, although it technically didn’t count, Robert Garcia, Ramirez’s trainer, knows what he saw with his own two eyes. Now, with his man being used as a stepping stone of sorts, Garcia believes that they can wreck Haney’s comeback party.

“Devin Haney, you know, coming off a pretty brutal loss, we have to take advantage of it,” said Garcia to Little Giant Boxing. “We gotta go out there and do our job.”

Haney, of course, has a few demons he’s facing but so is Ramirez. Nearly five years have passed since he clutched tightly onto a world title. And, when he was last spotted in the ring, he came just short of a win against Arnold Barboza.

Losing, however, and getting annihilated, are two vastly different things. At no point during his showdown against Garcia did Haney look like the smooth, slick boxer that many know him for.

As his head bounced violently off the canvas countless times, Garcia’s brain began working overtime. Ramirez (29-2, 18 KOs) isn’t quite on par with Ryan Garcia in terms of power but according to the longtime trainer, he hits hard enough to put a dent in Haney’s chin.

“I think Jose can hurt him,” continued Garcia. “Jose will hurt him.”
