Jose Benavidez: David Morrell is All Hype, Scared, Will Get Knocked Out in Eight
Jose Benavidez Jr. is not pulling any punches when breaking down his younger brother David’s prospects of beating David Morrell on February 1 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Prime Video pay-per-view.

“No, f***, no. They’ve said that for a lot of different fights. My brother has way more experience than this guy. He’s way more stronger,” Benavidez Jr. told Marcos Villegas of Fight Hub TV.

“It’s just hype. This guy [Morrell] has his hype, and you could see he’s scared. In all of these past interviews and faceoffs, you could tell he’s scared. He talks the big talk, but I could tell from his eyes that he’s not about what he talks.

“I’d say eight rounds, if that. My brother is going to take him out 100 percent. They say Morrell has power. What about all these other guys that they say had power? My brother was sparring Gennadiy Golovkin when Triple G was in his prime and David was a kid. He was right there, putting in work.”

The meeting between Benavidez (29-0, 24 KOs) and Morrell (11-0, 9 KOs) is a high-stakes matchup that will lead the winner to face the victor of the light heavyweight fight between undisputed champion Artur Beterbiev and Dmitry Bivol on February 22 in Saudi Arabia.

Also set to be featured on the Benavidez-Morrell undercard is the boastful Benavidez Jr. (28-3-1, 19 KOs) against Danny “Feel Good Hollywood” Rosenberger (20-9-4, 10 KOs) in an eight-round middleweight bout.

Benavidez, 32, is looking to get his career back on track. He is on a 1-3-1 run over his last five fights dating back to his welterweight title challenge against eventual undisputed champion Terence Crawford in 2018.

Benavidez also dropped a majority decision to Danny Garcia in 2022 and a unanimous decision to an overweight Jermall Charlo last time out in November.

Rosenberger has reeled off 14 straight wins since August 2021. Sandwiched in between was a draw against Nico Ali Walsh in 2023 that was later changed to a No Contest after Rosenberger failed a drug test due to elevated levels of testosterone.
