Jorge Garcia Perez, After Conwell Shock Win, Wants Sebastian Fundora Next
Jorge Garcia Perez was a dead man walking. The 28-year-old found himself in relatively big spots before but no matter how hard he tried, he always came up short. So, when he was asked to knock off Charles Conwell, that seemed practically impossible.

Conwell was the most confident man in the room as he made his way through Frontwave Arena this past Saturday night. Yet, by the time the dust settled, his undefeated record was a thing of the past.

There were shocked faces from those seated ringside, all the way to the fans sitting in the nosebleeds. But, in a sea of stunned faces, Perez stood there stoically. At no point did he expect to lose, despite oddsmakers pegging him as a gigantic underdog.

Conwell, like many, is trying to figure out how Perez pulled it off. And while he would love to give you a complicated answer loaded with an intricate and sophisticated game plan, he didn't want to be mendacious and lead anyone astray. Simply put, when it came to beating Conwell, Perez kept things as straightforward as possible.

“If he threw one, I threw three, four, five,” said Garcia to Sean Zittel during a one-on-one interview.

Perez (33-4, 26 KOs) might be giving the illusion that his approach was mundane but in actuality, he added a few subtle wrinkles to his game that pushed him over the winning edge. Now, the junior middleweight division is his oyster. Beating someone as decorated as Conwell places Perez in a different stratosphere.

What he wants more than anything, is to line up against any of the division’s champions. The 28-year-old would be grateful if any of the belt holders gave him a shot. However, there’s one dangerous titlist that Perez would love to get it on with first.

“Whether it’s (Sebastian) Fundora or any other world champions,” continued Perez. “We’re ready for what’s next. We want the big rivals.”
