Jesus Ramos aims to ride a wave of momentum and make a splash with a stoppage win against
Shane Mosley Jr. when they square off Saturday for the WBC interim middleweight title at the Frost Bank Center in San Antonio, Texas.
"I'm working to deliver my best performance to date," Ramos said during a press conference. "I have a lot of tools in my toolbox that I'm yet to display and looking forward to showing all of them. Shane Mosley Jr. is a great fighter who's never been stopped, so my goal is to be the first to get him out of there.
"We're coming to win and put on a good show for the fans, but it's a big fight. This is a big opportunity and there isn't a day that I don't go to sleep dreaming about this moment. I don't like to get too ahead of myself, but do dream about myself holding the belt, sitting in the locker room and reading every part of that WBC belt."
Ramos (23-1, 19 KOs) has had a busy year so far, fighting twice in a 50-day span. He made his middleweight debut in February to dominate and
stop faded former unified 154-pound champion Jeison Rosario in eight rounds.
In March, Ramos went back down to 154 pounds to score a
seventh-round stoppage win against Guido Emmanuel Schramm. But Ramos, The Ring's No. 8-ranked junior middleweight, was not able to
land desirable dance partners, so is moving back up to take on Mosley (22-4, 12 KOs).
Mosley has revived his career in recent years with strong showings and wins against Daniel Jacobs, Gabriel Rosado, and D'Mitrius Ballard. Ramos said he plans to mute Mosley in the matchup by pressing his jab.
"He's a very slick fighter and very fast," said Ramos. "So we have to negate that, we've been working on the jab and our timing. All around I just have to make my style sharper and better. If I'm 100 percent, I don't think anyone can beat me."
"There comes a time in the fight where things get tough and you ask yourself why you're here. You have to have answers. I tell myself it's because I was once that eight-year-old kid who wanted this. This is what I worked my whole life for, never hit a wall that I couldn't overcome."
