Nothing is set in stone but Terence Crawford appears to be on the verge of landing the mega-fight he’s been longing for.

Two weight classes and 14 pounds is ostensibly a huge jump but for Crawford, he’s perfectly fine with giving Canelo Alvarez a size advantage. As previously reported by The Ring, the pair are crossing their t’s and dotting their i’s as conclaves continue. With the two seemingly on a collision course, the opinions of the boxing world are split right down the middle.

Jaron Ennis, The Ring’s No. 1 ranked welterweight and current IBF belt holder, admits that he’ll be a fan if that fight actually takes place. As for how things will play out, he isn't among observers who are on the side of Alvarez. He also isn’t on Team Crawford’s side either. From his point of view, a matchup between those two can go either way.

“That’s a good fight,” admitted Ennis to YSM Sports Media. “A 50/50 fight.”

Ennis, ironically enough, chased Crawford. Now though, he isn’t focused on the future Hall of Famer anymore. Their paths aren’t likely to cross and the Philly star is putting that behind him.

Crawford, 37, is on his last legs. The sand in his hourglass is dwindling and protracting his time in the game isn’t something he’ll pursue. When last seen, The Ring’s No. 1 ranked junior middleweight eked out a unanimous decision win over Israil Madrimov in his 154-pound debut.

Alvarez, on the other hand, made two routine defenses of his super middleweight throne. Neither Jaime Munguia nor Edgar Berlanga presented him with many problems but Ennis has a feeling that the much smaller Crawford would. The issue, unsurprisingly, is the weight.

Crawford (41-0, 31 KOs) has always been light on his feet, elusive, and flat-out hard to hit. Those quick hands and even quicker feet, however, might be a bit slower with the added weight. Will the pound-for-pound star fight like a man who’s moving in quicksand? Or will he be as fast as ever? Those are questions that Ennis wants to find out.

“I’m pretty sure it’s gonna be a little difficult. He's gonna have to put on an extra 14 pounds so he might be a little slower or who knows? He could be faster. I don’t know. We’ll see on fight night how he’ll look.”
