Jan Paul Rivera Drops, Stops Daniel Bailey In Six During Flyweight Main Event
ORLANDO — Jan Paul Rivera seized his opportunity centre-stage in the most important fight of his young career, decisively dismissing Daniel Bailey in six rounds to justify why the 24-year-old featherweight is one of the world's most promising up-and-coming talents.

Their 10-round clash topped the first of a doubleheader at the Caribe Royale in Orlando, Florida streamed worldwide on DAZN as Most Valuable Prospects 14 proved fun viewing.

Entering this contest ranked No. 12 by the WBA and No. 15 with the WBO, Rivera was stripped of his WBO Youth divisional title after failing to make the 126-pound limit last time out, before a dominant eight-round points win over Alexis Eduardo Molina Jimenez in April.

Miami's Bailey by contrast, was riding a two-fight knockout streak - both inside the first three rounds - and understandably bullish about his chances of an upset in his home state.

Elsewhere during a nine-fight bill, undefeated Orlando native Corey Marksman scored an impressive stoppage before calling out highly-ranked contender Lucas Bahdi and there was an early night at the office for an Olympian as Jahmal Harvey made his pro debut.

Jan Paul Rivera stops Daniel Bailey via sixth-round TKO

Puerto Rican flyweight Jan Paul Rivera (13-0, 7 KOs) passed the toughest test of his career with flying colors to cap an eventful evening's action. The 24-year-old dropped Bailey twice before stopping him in the waning moments of round six.

Bailey (15-3, 6 KOs) was off to a solid start before Rivera responded by dropping him with a left hook to the temple. The pre-fight favourite remained on the front foot and while Bailey was constantly on the move, that merely prolonged a difficult night for the Miami native.

Frustrated and firmly warned by referee Luis Pabon after aggressively remonstrating with the official whenever the pair engaged up close, Rivera rocked Bailey again shortly afterwards.

He couldn't miss with the right hand: rocking the 29-year-old with it, before landing another deep in the sixth.

As the crowd noise swelled, the three-year pro pressed forward and followed the flurry up with a series of punches as Bailey was pressed up against the ropes, Pabon waving it off just before the bell.

Corey Marksman stops Luis Martinez in seven

The hometown kid delivered another impressive performance in front of his home crowd.

Marksman (12-0-1, 9 KOs) earned a seventh-round stoppage of Luis Martinez after a barrage of punches forced referee Chris Young to stop their contest.

Marksman was in control throughout, consistently landing power shots and making Martinez (9-2, 4 KOs) pay when he missed.

The beginning of the end came when Marksman connected with a pair of huge straight right hands before following it up with a combination to the head and body with Martinez along the ropes. Young stepped in to call a halt to the bout 20 seconds into the seventh stanza.

Jahmal Harvey def. Marcelo Del Aguila by first-round TKO

You couldn't have drawn up a better start for Jahmal Harvey.

The 2024 U.S. Olympian's pro debut ended with a first-round stoppage of Marcelo Del Aguila, who didn't emerge from his corner after the first round of their six-round clash.

Harvey was on the attack from the opening bell, landing with stabbing jabs and power shots out of both stances and was starting to open up at the end of the opening stanza, though, nothing appeared to clearly hurt Del Aguila.

Nevertheless, Harvey’s career began as well as it could have started.

Yoelvis Gomez def. Edwine Humaine by majority decision

Yoelvis Gomez's trip back down to 154 pounds paid dividends.

Gomez (9-1, 7 KOs) of Havana, Cuba, emerged victorious with a majority decision over Edwine Humaine to win a secondary WBA junior middleweight title in a 10-round fight.

Judge Braddan Jackson scored the fight a draw at 95-95, while Tina Griffith had it 96-94 and Efrain LeBron had it 97-93 in Gomez's favour.

Gomez and Humaine (9-2, 7 KOs) had moments throughout the fight connecting with big power shots. Ultimately, Gomez's aggression and ability to attack the head and body landed him a career-best victory.

Prelims

Alex Rios def. Tayre Jones by unanimous decision

Alex Rios and Tayre Jones were trading blows from the opening bell, but a second-half surge from Rios was enough to earn him a unanimous decision victory. Rios won 78-74 on all three scorecards to become the first man to defeat Jones as a pro.

The first half of the fight was hotly contested, with both fighters giving as good as they got. The Bayamon, Puerto Rico native’s nonstop pressure began to turn the tide in the fourth round in his favor as he landed the cleaner and more effective shots.

With the win, Rios improved to 10-2 with three knockouts. Jones of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, fell to 13-1 with seven knockouts in a spirited effort.

Damazion Vanhouter def. Colby Madison by first-round KO

Being the smaller man made no difference for Damazion Vahouter.

The undefeated 20-year-old heavyweight prospect Vanhouter made quick work of Colby Madison, knocking him out with 13 seconds left in the first round. With the end of the round near, Vanhouter, 9-0 (6 KOs), landed a left hook to the body and followed it with a right hook to the temple, sending Madison crumbling to the canvas. Madison, 11-9-3 (7 KOs), of Baltimore, Maryland, was unable to beat the 10-count from referee Alicia Young.

Carlos De Leon def. Haminton Blandon by second-round TKO

Carlos De Leon set the tone early, connecting with big shots throughout the first round. De Leon (5-0, 4 KOs) of Caguas, Puerto Rico, continued the momentum into the second round, connecting with more big shots on Haminton Blandon (3-2-1, 1 KO) and referee Luis Pabon stepped in to stop the fight with 1:12 left.

Sebastian Juarez def. Louis Hernandez by fourth-round TKO

Sebastian Juarez dropped Louis Hernandez once in the third round before stopping him in the fourth round.

Juarez, 9-0, (7 KOs) scored the knockdown at the very end of the third round with a straight right and rocked Hernandez, 12-4-1, (10 KOs) again with the same punch in the ensuing round before landing a barrage of punches, forcing referee Christopher Young to stop it.

Pedro Da Silva Conceicao def. Renny Viamonte Mastrapa by second-round KO

Pedro Da Silva Conceicao, 5-0 (3 KOs), scored a Knockout of the Year contender during the evening's opener.

After a first round where both fighters were mostly feeling each other out, the undefeated Brazilian prospect connected with a devastating overhand right to score a second-round knockout of Renny Viamonte Mastrapa, 4-3-1 (2 KOs).
