Jamaine Ortiz will stay on Saturday night's DAZN card after Steve Claggett was forced to withdraw from the fight on Thursday because of injury.
The junior welterweight contender and former title challenger will now face Ambiorix Bautista of the Dominican Republic on the Most Valuable Promotions card at Caribe Royale in Orlando, Florida.
The card is headlined by Puerto Rico’s Yankiel Rivera (7-0, 3 KOs) vs. Angelino Cordova (19-0-1, 12 KOs) of Venezuela for the interim WBA flyweight title. In the co-feature, Cuba’s Yoenis Tellez (10-0, 7 KOs) will make the first defense of his interim WBA junior middleweight title against Abass Baraou (16-1, 9 KOs) of Germany.
Bautista (19-2, 11 KOs) has won 16 straight fights, though none of those wins have come against opponents who are close to the level of Ortiz. This will also mark Bautista’s first fight outside of the Dominican Republic and his first fight that’s scheduled for 10 rounds. In his last fight, Bautista, 33, defeated Yoel Jean Batiste (10-10-1, 9 KOs) by unanimous decision in an eight-round bout on April 5.
Ortiz (19-2-1, 9 KOs), 29, enters Saturday on a two-fight winning streak after his unanimous decision loss to WBO junior welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez in February 2024. In those two wins, Ortiz has stopped Cristian Ruben Mino (24-10-2, 17 KOs) in the fourth round and defeated Yomar Alamo (22-4-1, 13 KOs) by unanimous decision on March 15 at Caribe Royale.
“You can expect a shutout,” Ortiz told The Ring. “You can expect a great fight. I'm going to try my best to make it as entertaining as possible and to let the whole division know that I'm here.”
