Jamaine Ortiz Out-Boxes Yomar Alamo, Cruises To Unanimous Decision On DAZN Card
All Jamaine Ortiz can accomplish if top junior welterweights won’t fight him is what he did Saturday night in Orlando, Florida.

The ambidextrous Ortiz stayed busy by mostly controlling the action against Yomar Alamo and won their 10-round bout by unanimous decision on the Austin “Ammo” Williams-Patrice Volny undercard at Caribe Royale Orlando. Judges Michelle Serrano (99-91), Michael Ross (99-91) and Michael Tate (98-92) all scored their 140-pound bout for Ortiz, who improved to 19-2-1.

The 28-year-old Ortiz, of Worcester, Massachusetts, won his second straight fight since his controversial 12-round, unanimous-decision defeat to Ring and WBO junior welterweight champion Teofimo Lopez 13 months ago at Mandalay Bay’s Michelob ULTRA Arena in Las Vegas.

“The performance was all right,” Ortiz told DAZN’s Chris Mannix in the ring. “Not the best, but I did what I had to do to come out victorious with a unanimous decision.”

Ortiz dictated the pace, almost exclusively fought off his front foot and landed the more impactful punches both from the inside and the outside on Alamo. Puerto Rico’s Alamo (22-4-1, 13 KOs) landed enough left hands to cause noticeable swelling beneath Ortiz’s right eye, but he didn’t win more than two rounds on any of the scorecards.

Ortiz began the bout from an orthodox stance, but he went southpaw at the start of the second round and remained effective thereafter.

“I just switched to southpaw,” Ortiz said. “Everybody knows my whole career I always was ambidextrous. I go from orthodox to southpaw, so I just get in my rhythm and I just flow. I go through the fight, and I adapt as I go and I adjust. If I feel good as a right, I stay righty. If I feel good as a southpaw, I might go back and forth. You know, it’s just how I feel.”
