Jaime Munguia followed Canelo Alvarez's lead in rejecting the IBF's offer to face Osleys Iglesias for the super middleweight world title left vacant by five-division champion Terence Crawford, who announced his retirement after a glittering 17-year car...
The wait for Osleys Iglesias' next opponent continues.
After Canelo Alvarez withdrew from the running last week, the IBF's next available contender Jaime Munguia did the same Monday.
The Ring's No. 1-rated super middleweight contender Iglesias (14-0, 13 KOs) has been patiently awaiting clarity on his next move, having blasted beyond Vladimir Shishkin after eight rounds in their world title eliminator on September 4.
The 28-year-old will next box for the IBF's vacant strap, after champion Terence Crawford announced his retirement last month, though the sanctioning body are no closer to finding a willing opponent in their top-10 rankings.
Eye of The Tiger president Camille Estephan, Iglesias' promoter, accepted the fight within five minutes of receiving an email from the IBF while Munguia's representatives at Zanfer refused the fight offer several hours later.
That means the New Jersey-based body must continue to go down their list.
No. 5-rated Callum Simpson will be unavailable, after suffering an upset 10th-round stoppage loss to Troy Williamson on Dec. 20 - two weeks after the latest ratings update.
Hamzah Sheeraz (22-0-1, 18 KOs) sits at No. 6, though has been ordered to face Diego Pacheco for WBO world honours and could be instead pursuing the WBC route too.
Russia's Pavel Silyagin (16-0-1, 7 KOs) is No. 7 and scored a career-best win over Pablo Exequiel Corzo in July, while former titleholder William Scull (23-1, 9 KOs) and Munguia's former foe Bruno Surace (26-1-2, 5 KOs) are also among the top-10.
