Jack Rafferty: You Can't Live Off Old Wins
The super lightweight division is one of the most high profile and hotly debated in British boxing but whilst most talk centres around Jack Catterall’s world title ambitions or a proposed clash between Dalton Smith and Adam Azim, Jack Rafferty has been quietly and quickly making up ground.

Rafferty, 25-0 (16 KOs), is on a charge. The ticket selling British and Commonwealth champion is the proud owner of the longest unbeaten run in British boxing and is preparing for this third televised title fight in six months.

On Saturday night, Rafferty faces Corey O’Regan, 14-0 (3 KOs), on the undercard of the heavyweight fight between Joe Joyce and Filip Hrgovic. DAZN will televise the Queensberry show from Manchester’s Co-Op Live Arena.

Since reaching title level in September 2023, the 29 year-old ‘Demolition Man’ from Shaw has stopped every opponent he has faced and after spending so long grinding away in small halls and sports centres, the way he has adapted to boxing in major arenas, live on television, suggests that his future could be extremely bright.

Most people had never seen Rafferty box until he wore down Henry Turner to win the British super lightweight title in exciting fashion last October and although he earned praise for the determination and power he showed that night, pundits were even more impressed but the way he systematically broke down Reece MacMillan to successfully defend his titles in February.

The last few months have opened his eyes to exactly what could be possible in the future.

“Yeah, it could but I'm not still celebrating them wins or nothing now. I want the bigger and better things,” he told The Ring.

“Win on Saturday night, Sunday I can enjoy myself and then I'm back to being nobody on a Monday. I’m staying dedicated and I'm working for what's next. You can't just live off them wins. Them wins are nothing now.

“There's people trying to stop me walking through the doors that I've got to be walking through if I want the bigger and better things so I've got to keep training hard.”

Last October, Rafferty stepped into the away corner and took out talented southpaw and undefeated multi-time national champion, Turner, to win the famous Lonsdale belt and earn himself a contract with Queensberry Promotions. Keen to stay busy, he leapt at the chance to fight another skilful, unbeaten southpaw in O’Regan.

Practice makes perfect. Rumours are beginning to circulate that Rafferty could be set for a major summer showdown with yet another southpaw in the heavy handed Mark Chamberlain.

Whilst there are big fights on the horizon, there is next to no chance of Rafferty looking beyond this weekend’s fight or treating it as a rehearsal. O’Regan helped him prepare for the fight with Turner and Rafferty knows exactly how good he is.

“I've got a lively opponent here. I've got another tricky southpaw,” he said.

“He's sharp, he's slick. He's a great mover, he's a great boxer. He can do a bit of everything so I think this will bring the best out of me. I've stayed consistent in the gym. I'm doing all the right things and I think that's the recipe for a brilliant Jack Rafferty.”
