Rafael Espinoza Has No Problem Giving Bruce Carrington A Title Shot
Bruce “Shu Shu” Carrington isn’t a picky or stubborn fighter. He just simply wants his shot.

The 28-year-old featherweight is in a rare position. For most fighters, they’re forced to go down a particular route depending on where they’re ranked in a sanctioning body. For Carrington, however, he’s highly ranked in all four.

Of course, Carrington has his pick of the litter. Originally, he was hoping to share the ring with Stephen Fulton. But the current WBC titlist appears to be on the verge of heading on up to 130 pounds to take on O’Shaquie Foster. With Fulton seemingly out of the picture, Carrington has turned his attention towards Nick Ball. Conclaves between them haven’t taken place but he appears to be Carrington’s primary target.

Although Ball is his preference, things could get tricky due to their opposing promoters. One fight, however, that makes all the sense in the world is a showdown with Rafael Espinoza. The WBO titlist and Carrington share the same promotional banner. Also, the Brooklyn native is ranked No. 1 for his title.

Yet, despite the ostensible easiness of making a matchup between them, Carrington (15-0, 9 KOs) has claimed that Team Espinoza has turned him down. But, according to Espinoza (27-0, 23 KOs) himself, if Carrington wants an immediate shot, he can get one.

“Yes, without a doubt,” Espinoza told reporter Sean Zittel when asked if he’s willing to fight Carrington next.

Hearing that he could be next in line should be music to Carrington’s ears. In his last few fights, he made things look easy, including against Enrique Vivas recently.

That third-round knockout win was met with a stoic demeanor. Carrington claimed that he was no longer interested in facing the division’s bottom feeders and is more than ready for a title shot.

Espinoza, while English isn’t his first language, hears the American loud and clear. Carrington, along with the rest of the division’s champions and top contenders, is more than welcome to try and knock him off.

“I’m willing to fight with anyone.”
