HUGHIE FURY is in talks to face Dillian Whyte in Galway, Ireland this July.
The 30-year-old cousin of former world heavyweight champion Tyson had a busy 2024, winning three times following two-and-a-half years out of the ring.
He is yet to open his account for 2025 but his promoters, GBM Sports, have now confirmed that Fury will feature on their card at the Pearse Stadium in Ireland in ‘late July’.
And now it has emerged that his compatriot Whyte is a ‘frontrunner’ for the fight, after he returned to training following an injury.
The 36-year-old ‘Bodysnatcher’ had been scheduled to face Joe Joyce in Manchester this weekend but was forced to withdraw after he cut his finger in a freak gym accident, when he caught it between two dumbbells.
But it looks like the 31-3 (21) Whyte could be handed the chance to return in the main event in Ireland as he bids to force his way back into the world title picture.
First, Fury, who is currently 29-3 (16), must take care of Bradford’s Dan Garber in their York Hall six-rounder on Friday night.
GBM Sports’ Izzy Asif said: “GBM Sports will be staging an event at Pearse Stadium, Galway in July and Hughie Fury will be on the card.
“We have several names in contention as an opponent, all of whom are well known. Dillian Whyte is a frontrunner for that slot as we believe that is a fight which would deliver massively for fans in attendance and watching around the world.
”We look forward to confirming further details of our Galway event in due course.”
