Hearn: Great Fighter Vergil Ortiz, But I Think Jaron Ennis Plays With Him
Things are getting a bit too easy for Jaron Ennis.

Last weekend, Eimantas Stanionis was supposed to test and push the Philly star to his limits. But, in just the first few seconds, it was clear that Ennis was simply on another level.

At times, Ennis used a consistent jab both upstairs and downstairs to throw his man off but when he got bored in there, he got fancy, leaving Stanionis bloodied. Once the Lithuanian returned to his corner after the sixth, his corner waved the white flag, refusing to let him go back out there for another senseless three-minute beating.

Now, With Ennis holding The Ring, IBF, and WBO titles, Eddie Hearn, his current promoter, is sifting through the boxing landscape and attempting to find him another victim.

For years, the name Vergil Ortiz has floated around as not just an opponent, but a worthy one. Hearn though, finds that statement ridiculous.

“He beats him easy,” said Hearn to The Ring. “Easy.”

Just a few months ago, there was talk that a matchup between the two could actually happen. However, things fell apart during their conclaves as Ennis was unwilling to move up in weight just yet.

For now, the two continue to circle each other and remain in their presence. Ennis (34-0, 30 KOs) is coming into his own but Ortiz is coming off back-to-back wins over strong competition when he took out Serhii Bohachuk and Israil Madrimov.

Hearn has seen Ortiz’s violent handiwork up close and personal on several occasions. At 154 pounds, he isn’t sure who can beat him but that’s only keeping in mind the fighters that currently call the junior middleweight division their home.

From a fan point of view, Ortiz vs. Ennis is must-see TV. And, according to some, it’s a 50-50 fight. Nevertheless, when they finally do face off, Hearn will simply sit back and look at the shocked faces when Ennis barely breaks a sweat.

“Great fighter Vergil Ortiz but I think Jaron Ennis just plays with him.”
