The first defense of
Jazza Dickens' title will have to wait.
The WBA junior lightweight champion was initially scheduled to face
Hayato Tsutsumi on December 27 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. However, an orbital floor fracture during training camp has forced his opponent out of their bout.
Dickens vs. Tsutsumi was set to be a part of ‘Ring V’ which will be headlined by pound-for-pound star and current undisputed 122-pound champion,
Naoya Inoue, who will face Alan Picasso in the main event.
Although the show will go on, Dickens (36-5, 15 KOs) is being left behind. The 34-year-old started off his 2025 with a close points win over Zelfa Barrett on February 15. He then
stopped the previously undefeated Albert Batyrgaziev in the fourth round on July 2, winning the interim WBA 130-pound title.
He was upgraded to full champion status earlier this month after previous champion
Lamont Roach's fight with Isaac Cruz at 140 pounds on December 6. Despite Dickens' 2025 form, oddsmakers viewed him as a massive underdog.
Tsutsumi (8-0, 5 KOs) may have just eight fights under his belt, but he’s consistently looked explosive. The 26-year-old from Chiba City, Chiba, Japan has reeled off five consecutive stoppage victories.
His latest came at the expense of Qais Ashfaq on August 16.
It’s unclear if Dickens vs. Tsutsumi will be rescheduled for a later date, or if both parties will now go their separate ways.
