Harlem Eubank Ready To Roll With Family Name 'Back At The Top' After Spurs Reunion
Harlem Eubank was on his way to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium when he saw his uncle and cousin, Chris Jr and Sr, reunited in one of the year’s most viral boxing moments.

But while a wave of pure emotion surged through the crowd already inside the venue when footage was shown on the big screens, a fire began to burn inside the man en route.

“It was one of my favourite moments of live TV I’ve ever watched,” Eubank told The Ring. “I’ve had people telling me they called their dad straight away. That moment sparked so much emotion around the world.

“I was in the car on the way to Junior’s dressing room - I was like ‘oh my’. I had no idea it was happening. It got me so hyped.

“Now it’s up to me to take that and run with it. That’s my job, to carry it on. The Eubank name is at the top and we’re going in there to stamp it up at world level.

“There is no bigger stage than this - taking on someone considered one of the best in the world. People think it is a travesty he hasn’t been world champion.”

Following on from that famous night on the Seven Sisters Road, when Eubank Jr edged out Conor Benn at the home of Tottenham Hotspur, the 32-year-old Harlem is the next member of the family out of the gate. He is set to face Jack Catterall at the Manchester Arena on July 5 in what is quite clearly the hardest fight of his career.

Eubank (21-0, 9 KOs) has made reasonably serene progress and while he has always liked to assume the mindset of an underdog throughout his career, the reality is that he has rarely headed into a fight expected to lose by anyone outside his opponent’s close team.

But there is no denying that he is a huge outsider against Catterall (30-2, 13 KOs), the wily southpaw who many people believe should have become unified 140lb champion the night he boxed Josh Taylor for the first time. Now, after more than 10 years at junior welterweight, Catterall has decided to step up to welterweight and this clash with Eubank will be his debut in the new division. He will also have home advantage against the Brighton man.

When asked whether it feels different being the putative underdog, Eubank says: “As a fighter you have to remove these types of dynamics.

“Public perception doesn’t register with me at all. Jack is just another challenge and the odds, the bookies, the public perception is irrelevant because when it's just us fighting in there it all changes. For me, this is just another one of those nights where I'm going to go in there and put on a show.

“When I'm going in there, I'm putting all the pressure on myself. On paper, he's the best guy that I've been in the ring with so I have to put all the pressure on me. I've applied that pressure this training camp and that's my mindset.”

With just two outings at welterweight himself, Eubank is a relative newcomer to the division as well but he has recently made his way into the top 15 with two of the four recognised sanctioning bodies at 147lbs. Victory over Catterall will no doubt fire him even higher up the rankings towards the family’s first world title shot since Chris Jr lost to George Groves in 2018.

“I think it puts me right there,” Eubank says. “Once I win this fight I’ll be ready to go out and face any of the top guys in the United States. I’ll be ready to challenge for the world title but if not in my next fight I’ll be able to face one of the guys recognised as one of the best.

“This is the type of fight I need and I see it as my ticket to the best guys in the United States.”

As it stands, the 147lbs division is dominated by American fighters, with Ring Magazine champion Jaron 'Boots' Ennis of Philadelphia currently holding the IBF and WBA titles while Texan Mario Barrios is the WBC king and Georgia’s Brian Norman in possession of the WBO. In fact, four of the five top spots at welterweight in the Ring rankings are filled by Americans.

“That’s where the division is hot right now,” Eubanks adds. “That’s where all the guys that I want to be fighting are.

“For me Jaron Ennis is the No. 1 and that is the sort of fight I look forward to because a lot of people believe that he is the No. 1. They are the nights that excite me and I’d love that kind of challenge.

“But that’s for another day. My focus is fully on July 5 because only a win there will open those doors for me and I won’t let that slip.”

Now it is up to him to create another memorable viral moment for the Eubank family, but only this time inside the ring.
