Chris Eubank will look to prolong Conor Benn’s beating rather than ending their Tottenham Hotspur clash early in order to give fans value for money.
That is the prediction made by Harlem Eubank, cousin of Chris, who maintains Saturday night’s encounter in north London is a ‘mismatch and a domination’.
As the naturally smaller man, Benn has been made the underdog with the bookmakers with Eubank, who is also the more experienced fighter, priced as a clear favourite.
However, Benn and his team, particularly his promoter Eddie Hearn, have suggested that the 35-year-old from Brighton will come unstuck because he simply does not care about the result as much as his younger opponent, who will box for the first time on British soil for three years following two failed Vada tests in 2022.
But Harlem believes there is only one man who has taken this fight for the money - and it is not his cousin.
“He’s sat out for three years after a drug scandal and he would have lost a lot of money on the promotion originally,” he told The Ring.
“And I think this is a cash grab to get that money back and then some. He sat out of the game for three years, boxed three times at 154 pounds, which he claims isn't his weight class, and has struggled with those fighters that were all ranked probably outside the top 100.
“So if anyone's cashing in or sat around for three years doing nothing, waiting for this opportunity, it's them.”
On the fight itself, he added: “If you look on paper and you’re not persuaded by acting or what people say they’re going to do, this is not one of Junior’s toughest fights.
“I think it’s going to be a mismatch and a domination and I think Chris Eubank Jr drowns him and knocks him back down to 147lbs. I don’t think he will be affected by the emotion of the occasion - he will go in there and be himself.
“He has operated at a different level but I think he’s going to want to give people value for money.
“I can see him letting the kid hang in there for a little bit to give the fans value for money. I don't think he wants everyone to come out and then he takes this guy out in a round. There'll be a lot of people that believe it's going to be a back and forth or a real firefight.
“Chris will want to let people buy into that story for a little bit before he takes him out for real. I see that in Chris. He likes to put on a show.”
Harlem was one of the fighters who lost out when the initial event topped by his cousin and Benn fell through in October 2022. Eubank Jr had vowed to pay every undercard fighter who lost money on that show - and split £50,000 between them last week as promised.
“I got a call from him the day before asking for my bank details,” Eubank said. “I was like ‘OK, you’re staying true on this one!’ He came through on his word and transferred the payment to everyone on that undercard.
“That’s a big play and a big win for him, taking the promoter’s role into his own hands and making sure that fighters are looked after.”
The event will be
carried by DAZN PPV.
