Devin Haney is getting his ducks in a row for
his March return.
Haney was in London over the weekend to host a media workout on Friday before attending The Ring Awards on Saturday. During the festivities, Haney was also set to meet with Turki Alalshikh, chairman of the General Entertainment Authority in Saudi Arabia, to map out his future.
“I don't have any news on my next opponent yet. We’re looking at some guys,” said Haney. “I want to fight everybody. Y'all know that I’m not into tune-up fights and stay-busy fights. I want to make the biggest fights happen. I want to fight the best fighters in the world and that's one of the main reasons why I’m here. To meet with Turki Alalshikh to talk about what's next. Hopefully, we can get something done.”
It appears Haney could pursue two separate paths. One would be to fight on an upcoming Alalshikh-staged Riyadh Season show, the other linking up with the nascent streaming service BLK Prime.
"BLK Prime has a good opportunity for me in March,” said Haney. “They offered me something. But now His Excellency has called a meeting for a fight, so we'll see if we can iron something out while I'm here.”
An opponent that has been rumored for the BLK Prime-engineered show is Adrien Broner (35-5-1, 24 KOs). Haney did not entirely shoot down the notion that the faded four-division beltholder could be a potential dance partner.
"That's not true, but it's possible," said Haney.
Haney – The Ring’s No. 1 fighter at 140 pounds and No. 10 overall pound-for-pound – also added that he’d ideally return at a catchweight contest of 143 or 144 pounds for his next fight.
Haney (31-0, 15 KOs) has not fought since his controversial April 20 clash against Ryan Garcia. Haney was knocked down three times in the fight and originally lost a majority decision, later overturned to a no contest after it was ruled Garcia tested positive for the performance enhancing drug ostarine.
“Now that I’ve been away for almost a year, I definitely got that itch back,” said Haney. “Just because I was cheated in a fight, that doesn't mean that I’m going to change my tune. I still feel that I’m the best fighter in the world. I can beat all of these guys on an even playing field.”
