Hamzah Sheeraz is ready to face
Terence Crawford next should the new "king of the sport" decide to stay at super middleweight.
Crawford made history Saturday night as he jumped up two divisions to become boxing’s first undisputed champion in three weight classes with a convincing points win against now-deposed super middleweight king
Canelo Alvarez.
The result at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas will have a huge bearing on the career of Sheeraz, who was set to fight Alvarez (63-3-2, 39 KOs) for his belts early next year had the Mexican icon taken care of Crawford (42-0, 31 KOs) successfully.
Now, during an interview with
The Ring, Sheeraz (22-0-1, 18 KOs) has welcomed the ushering in of a new era at 168 pounds and admitted that he would prefer a shot at the world title rather than pursuing a fight with Alvarez.
“I could still fight Canelo,” said Sheeraz, who watched from ringside at the home stadium of the NFL's Raiders.
“But I’d just like a shot at the titles, no matter who has got them."
“If Crawford has them, if he stays at the weight, then I’ll fight him. But if he vacates then I’m mandatory with the WBC. I just want a crack at the titles.”
