The roadmap is set for Ryan Garcia to resume his career after the suspended star
signed a fight deal last Thursday with Turki Alalshikh, owner of The Ring and head of Riyadh Season.
Garcia said he’s heading toward a 140-pound fight against Isaac Cruz in May, a 147-pound fight against Devin Haney five months later, and if all goes to plan, a bout against Teofimo Lopez Jr. after that.
Garcia (24-1, 20 KOs) said his fight against Cruz (26-3-1, 18 KOs) would take place on the same card as Devin Haney’s (31-0, 15 KOs) fight against Jose Ramirez (29-2, 18 KOs) at New York’s Times Square.
“When I win [against Cruz], I will fight [Haney] again, and beat him again,” Garcia told the assembled media on Friday while in attendance for a 360 Promotions show at Los Angeles' Commerce Casino.
“I'm curious to see how [Haney] comes back in this fight in May. Hopefully he's still sharp and I can get my credit when I beat him the second time.
“I’m excited to vindicate my victory that I deserved rightfully, and I’m ready to kick his ass again and shove it in [Haney’s father, trainer and manager] Bill’s face again. It’s going to feel just as good as the first time.
“And finally I can put that to rest and move on with my career, and maybe fight Teofimo. I'm just fighting everyone. Everyone I wanted to fight, I'm fighting.”
Garcia expressed his willingness to face the smaller Cruz at the junior welterweight limit, the same weight he failed to make last April during his bout against Haney.
In that fight, Garcia came in 3.2 pounds overweight but managed to knock down Haney three times, securing a majority decision victory.
However, the result was later overturned to a no contest after Garcia tested positive for the performance-enhancing drug ostarine. He was also fined, suspended, and Haney subsequently sued him for battery, fraud, and breach of contract.
