Frazer Clarke Hoping For Activity After Tetteh 1st-round TKO, Keen To Be An Usyk Sparring Partner
This weekend marks a month removed from Frazer Clarke's triumphant in-ring return, needing less than two minutes to dismiss Ebenezer Tetteh and banish the ghosts of his disastrous Fabio Wardley rematch defeat in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Having spoken to The Ring about his mindset heading into a comeback fight on home soil in Birmingham, half-an-hour from his Burton base, the Olympic bronze medallist is itching to stay busy.

Talks are ongoing with promoter Ben Shalom and BOXXER about potentially returning next month on Callum Simpson's undercard in Barnsley, as he boxes unbeaten Italian contender Ivan Zucco for the vacant EBU European super-middleweight title.

If they can't find a suitable heavyweight opponent for that show, three weeks from now, Clarke could conceivably be on the sidelines until September. He turns 34 in August and knows of a need to stay occupied while other divisional rivals are entertaining crossroads contests.

Johnny Fisher (13-0, 11 KOs) seeks to banish any doubt in his Dave Allen (23-7-2, 18 KOs) rematch tonight at the Copper Box Arena, while The Ring's Declan Taylor reported on Queensberry's £150,000 winning purse bid for the proposed David Adeleye vs. Jeamie Tshikeva matchup earlier this week.

Adeleye won British honours vacated by Wardley on April 5, though the contentious nature of the sixth-round stoppage and referee Ron Kearney's passive officiating during an overtly physical showdown left questions with both agreeing to an immediate do-over later this year.

Matchroom CEO Frank Smith told Boxing News that Fisher vs. the Adeleye-Tshikeva 2 winner makes sense as a 'sensible fight' next, assuming the 26-year-old is victorious this weekend.

Clarke rates Fisher in high esteem and previously told The Ring how impressed he was about the fan-friendly contender being more than just a popular ticketseller.

"The rate he's improving at, his physicality and mentality, I see him going everywhere to spar everyone... different experiences are invaluable and that's a skill in itself. He's a lot better fighter now than a few fights ago, I'm not overlooking him [as a potential opponent], he's among Britain's top heavies," Clarke said this time last year.

Keeping up with the same theme, Clarke fancies himself as a potential sparring partner for Oleksandr Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs) as the unbeaten Ukrainian prepares to rematch Daniel Dubois for the division's undisputed world titles July 19 at Wembley Stadium.

He told BoxingScene: "I don't want to wait that long [September] to fight. But if that's the way it is, that's how it works out. In the interim I'll go and get some good work, good sparring - maybe over in the states. I'm [also] going to put my name forward to go and get some experience with Usyk. There's conversations to be had, maybe we divert and go past the British title, take a different route."

A year after vacating the Southern Area title, Fisher is currently ranked #13 with both the WBO and WBA without needing to go down the traditional English and British title route.

That may be a future option, though Clarke is seven years his senior and doesn't have time to go through the levels if he realistically wants to bridge the gap between domestic and world-level contention.

"The way I see it - we're all floating around the same sort of level. My next one or two, I'd like to fight the winner of TKV and Adeleye but the proposition of me versus The Romford Bull [Fisher] makes a good match. It all depends how he comes through this fight, I want him to win - it's better for British heavyweight boxing if someone who wants to fight his way towards titles wins."

Clarke, who scored a sixth-round stoppage victory over Allen during a messy and forgettable meeting in September 2023, is unsurprisingly rooting for the younger man to reign victorious again.

Chalking the surprising outcome of their initial meeting down to inexperience, Clarke said he thought Allen edged their ten-round contest but this time, it can be very different.

"I don't think Allen has much more to offer. I'm rooting for Johnny; I'd like him to win, don't know him super well but he might have to discipline himself not to go looking for a knockout. If he uses his head and not get involved - not in the first five, six rounds anyway - his gas tank will be a lot better, can look really good, like a disciplined boxer than just a big, strong, athletic heavy who can punch.

It's a good match in terms of Johnny's development, make some slight adjustments and he wins the fight quite comfortably."
