Promoter Frank Warren has called on
Daniel Dubois to channel the spirit of heavyweight greats Rocky Marciano and George Foreman in order to dethrone heavyweight supremo
Oleksandr Usyk on Saturday.
Dubois (22-2, 21 KOs) and Usyk (23-0, 14 KOs) will battle for
The Ring and undisputed heavyweight titles at Wembley in London this weekend. Around 90,000 fans will pack out the National Stadium and it will be
shown live on DAZN PPV.
In August 2023, now IBF champion Dubois fought and lost to Usyk via ninth-round TKO but since then has built himself back up with three impressive stoppage wins, the last of which came against
Anthony Joshua, and now he's back in against the Ukrainian in an even bigger fight.
Usyk has cemented himself as one of the heavyweight greats over the last several years, toppling both Anthony Joshua and
Tyson Fury across four contests, and he's even admitted that at the age of 38, he has just two fights left.
Dubois remains a +300 underdog against the man who has never lost, but Warren says in order for his guy to come out on top, he's going to have to unsettle Usyk in ways nobody has ever been able to do.
"The body, the head, everywhere," Warren said in response to a question about what Dubois has to target. "Elbows and arms, too. Just let those bombs go. Let them feel the power, that's right. It doesn't matter where they land. If you hurt, you know, you get guys to tuck up.
"[Rocky] Marciano used to smash people's arms, break people's arms. Just let your shots go. Let them feel the power. They start thinking, 'screw that, that's my arm, I don't want to get it on the chin'. You have to make them feel that way. That's what Marciano, George Foreman, did as well."
The last time Dubois threw a competitive punch, he produced an emphatic fifth-round knockout against Joshua at Wembley, which he will headline for a second consecutive fight in an historic first.
Warren also says that Dubois still doesn't get the credit for that Joshua win, but it's expected, as the same thing happened to Joe Calzaghe when he beat superstar Chris Eubank in 1997.
He expects the same will happen if Dubois overcomes Usyk.
"They done it to Joe Calzaghe when he beat Eubank," Warren added. "All they talked about was Eubank getting beaten, instead you should be talking about the next great guy, who turned out to be the best out of all of them, done what none of the others could do, Joe Calzaghe.
"So, the winner's the winner. And listen, everybody will talk about Usyk [if he loses], and quite rightly they should, but [Dnaiel] beating the guy who was undefeated and beating everybody, makes him the man.
"The one thing about this fight for Daniel, and it's important, is he's not getting into the ring with somebody he doesn't know. He shared the ring with him a couple of years ago, 23 months ago, so he knows what to expect.
"The fight wasn't difficult to make. They both wanted it. So it's not like you're trying to convince somebody into doing something. It's the fight they both wanted. And that shows you that they both got confidence in their ability to win the fight."
