Frank Warren: I Want Derek Chisora To Achieve His Dream of 50 Fights
After chasing Otto Wallin around Manchester’s Co-Op Live Arena for 12 rounds on Saturday night, Derek Chisora called a trio of UK rappers into the ring and had them hold up posters of former undisputed and current unified heavyweight champion, Oleksandr Usyk, two-time unified champion, Anthony Joshua and current IBF king, Daniel Dubois.

The heavyweight veteran then announced that he would let an enraptured crowd decide on who he should face in what will be his fiftieth and final fight.

Chisora, 36-13 (23 KOs), dropped a disappointing Wallin, 27-3 (15 KOs), twice on his way to earning a wide unanimous decision and the 49th fight of his rollercoaster career ended up being one of his most convincing victories. At the post fight press conference, the 41 year-old declared that he feels he has earned the right to leave the sport with ‘something big.’

Had Chisora been forced to go to the well and one again push himself through hell to beat Wallin, it may have been easier to persuade him to wave goodbye against a handpicked opponent.

As it was - apart from a severe cut over his right eye - Chisora accumulated less damage than he has in some time against the reluctant Swede.

Finding an opponent who will provide Chisora with the type of occasion which would satisfy any remaining unfilled ambitions and allow him to head off into the sunset content with his accomplishments is one thing. Finding him the type of opponent who would bring that amount for attention but not present Chisora with too dangerous and formidable a task at this stage of his career is another.

Chisora elevated himself to number two in the IBF rankings by beating Wallin but would find himself spending time he doesn’t have in a queue if he decided to wait for a title shot.

Dubois is less than two weeks away from defending his title against Joseph Parker on February 22nd’s stacked card in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia and Nigeria’s Efe Ajagba and Congo’s Martin Bakole are set to meet in a final eliminator for the Londoner’s belt in May.

Given the circumstances, it does seem more likely that Chisora will seek a high profile, big name opponent for his final fight rather than wait for the IBF title picture to play out.

At the post fight press conference, Hall-Of-Fame promoter, Frank Warren, did suggest that he will let Chisora himself decide on the path he takes but was insistent that beating Wallin so comfortably shouldn’t convince him to prolong his career.

“What’s a legitimate opponent? Well, he just won an eliminator for the IBF title so on your fiftieth fight, what do you want do? Do you wanna fight for a title or do you wanna go where the money is? That’s his choice,” Warren told The Ring.

“Look, boxing’s a dangerous business for any fighter, especially when you get to his age and - I might upset him - but I hope that when he gets to 50 fights, he doesn’t say I want a 51st and a 52nd because this stuff does catch up with you. There’s no doubt about that.

"I just want him to achieve his dream of having 50 fights and that’s it.”
