Edwin De Los Santos loves mixing it up with top-level guys. So, when he was given a chance to share the ring with Shakur Stevenson in November of 2023, he jumped at the opportunity. Things didn’t entirely go his way but even with a close decision going against him, he created enough buzz for more opportunities to come his way.
Ultimately, a blood clot issue kept him out of the ring far longer than many were expecting. Now, after addressing his health issues, it appears that his next opponent could be set in stone.
According to Sampson Lewkowicz, De Los Santos’ promoter, his fighter will likely share the ring with another top contender looking to bounce back.
“He’ll probably fight Frank Martin,” said Sampson Lewkowicz to Bernardo Pilatti Official.
Martin, 30, could use a shoot in the arm. In 2024, the Detroit native earned his first title shot against one of the most recognizable names in the sport, Gervonta Davis.
Early on, Martin (18-1, 12 KOs) fought beautifully but the moment he began to slow down, Davis took control, resulting in an eighth-round stoppage win. Since then, Martin has removed himself from the public eye. Recently, however, he was spotted working out. In addition to that, he also revealed that he was done with the lightweight division.
De Los Santos, on the other hand, hasn’t made any mention of moving up in weight. To the contrary, while making his recovery, he brought up Keyshawn Davis, the newly crowned WBO lightweight belt holder, as someone he would love to face.
Lewkowicz didn’t clarify if a matchup between Martin and De Los Santos (16-2, 14 KOs) would take place at their original weight of 135 or if both men would move up. Although those details are still a bit foggy, he did provide a vague date for their showdown to take place.
“Most likely in May.”
