It wasn't the most active year for
Floyd Schofield, but the 23-year-old made the most of his lone appearance in 2025.
It took Schofield just over a minute to stop Tevin Farmer in the first round of their clash last June. Although he hasn’t been in the ring since, Schofield believes that he’s ready to go into a big-time fight next.
The lightweight division has a ton of notable names, and while Schofield wouldn’t mind lacing them up with just about anyone, his preference is to get his hands on a young fighter who’s also coming off the best win of his career.
“I want that Abdullah Mason fight,” Schofield told MillCity Boxing. “I feel like in 2026, two young guys get it out the way so early in their career. Who don’t wanna see that?”
Mason (20-0, 17 KOs), 21, picked up a world title in his first attempt on November 22 at ANB Arena in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia,
thanks to his victory over Sam Noakes. It was a back-and-forth Fight of the Year contender, but getting that decision made the Ohioan the youngest world champion in boxing at the moment. Schofield (19-0, 13 KOs) hasn’t reached that position yet.
Seeing a world title fight between two men who have yet to reach their physical primes would be an unusual but welcome change of pace.
Marinating it doesn't interest Schofield. Fighting Mason is one of his top priorities and he believes he has enough to win the WBO lightweight title, likely by stoppage.
“I want him now,” Schofield continued. “I’m stopping him.”
