Elijah Garcia will take on Abraham Gabriel Buonarrigo on October 25 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas, as part of the Sebastian Fundora-Keith Thurman undercard.
Garcia (17-1, 13 KOs) revealed the development on his verified Instagram page, taking place on the non pay-per-view portion of PBC's latest card.
Garcia, a 22-year-old middleweight contender from Arizona, was building a promising career as an unbeaten prospect and knocked out
Armando Resendiz in September 2023.
That eighth-round stoppage win over Resendiz continues to age well, as the Mexican has since moved up in weight and
stunned former IBF titleholder Caleb Plant in May to win the WBA interim super middleweight title. Garcia's own championship aspirations meanwhile, have been derailed during his subsequent two bouts.
Garcia was dropped in the first round and despite Gausha outlanding him 189-154 during their 10-round fight, the southpaw
was awarded a highly debatable decision.Buonarrigo (14-5, 11 KOs), a 30-year-old from Argentina, gets the assignment to gauge Garcia’s ceiling further. He has scored back-to-back third-round stoppage wins against unheralded opposition after his December 2023 fourth-round TKO loss to
Kevin Lele Sadjo.
