NEW YORK — One thing
Edgar Berlanga loves is a big fight.
But matchups with
Jermall Charlo,
Caleb Plant or
Canelo Alvarez make little to no sense following his latest appearance.
By all accounts, he’s working on it.
“I’m focused on my comeback fight right now,” Berlanga told The Ring. “There’s a lot of big fights and big names for me in the future, but right now, I got to get back on track.”
Berlanga, 28, didn’t make it clear when he would return, but he said several dates and names are being discussed.
Before he officially moves forward, Berlanga (23-2, 18 KOs) had to make peace with his rough night against England’s
Sheeraz (22-0-1, 18 KOs).
During the build up,
the bombastic New Yorker warned the tall and lanky contender. But he went down twice in the fourth, followed by a violent finish in the subsequent round.
While a rematch with Sheeraz won’t be happening anytime soon, if ever, Berlanga will look to take out his frustrations on his next opponent.
“What happened in my last fight is in the past,” Berlanga said. “It wasn’t my night, but that didn’t dim my light and damage my star power. It was one bad night, but it happens. I'm a make an example out of my next opponent. I promise you.”
